Doesn't quite have the sex appeal of the bike.

I just got this - The unit on his back - the one in the video was a pre-production version. I got the first full production on off the assembly line.

those tanks "flopping" around look like a PITA. but rebreathers have always been friggin cool in my book.
Chuck + Gear List + FlickARRRRRRGH = Profit?

Dave, do you dive caves or do you need the rebreathers for salvage?
We have some crazy caves to dive where I live.

I dive deep wrecks/walls, etc but I love wreck diving.
Caves would be fun but we don't have any! I've done the "ballroom" at Ginnie Springs a couple times and some caverns south of Cancun but no caves yet... I have friends that would really like for me to come down to FL and take my cave training. Just not a high priority.
From what I understand Wakulla is a cave dive to beat all cave dives but I believe that WKPP has exclusive access to it.
Youtube - aktechdivers the video on the SS State of California was taken last year I was on my old rebreather and my buddy was on scuba. Max depth was a hair over 200' current was screaming you can tell by how I'm kicking....
Oh and they are fantastic for photography too! It's amazing how noisy bubbles are you can't fathom it until you are on a rebreather with someone else on open circuit. The animals are much friendlier when you done sound like a diesel truck swimming by!

On Open Circuit (OC) you use about 5% of the say 21% O2 in the gas you breathe then blow the rest out as bubbles and waste CO2.
On the rebreather (CCR) you recycle the gas, send it through a chemical (sodalime) to remove the CO2 and injext a minute amount of O2 to replace what you used and it goes round and round.
So on OC the common tank you see has 80 cubic feet of stuffed into it. That will last the average diver 30-60 minutes depending on depth, workload, fitness, excitement, etc... On CCR, I carry 19 cuft of O2 and 19cuft of air to blend inside the rebreather. Those 2 little bottles can last me somewhere around 4-5 hours.
There are also some major advantages in deep diving as the rebreather optimized the gas you are breathing to minimize decompression.
In really deep diving - we mix pure Helium into the breathing gas, On OC, for say a 200' dive the helium alone will cost around $100 for a single dive compared to about $10 on the rebreather.
The disadvantage is that it's much less forgiving than OC and you are banking on 7lbs of "cat litter" to maintain your life.

Sweet! You using it for a weather condom or actually putting the camera in the water?
|

Will actually be putting it in water. Will be using it in the pool this summer and for, er... other projects.![]()

From my "other" stream: This week's Weekly Jack shot was taken with the Panasonic DMC-GF1 inside the DiCAPac WP-610, which allows me to shoot literally underwater if needed. In the lower left of the frame, the big white area is a very inexpensive Vivitar SF-3000 in a Ziploc bag, being triggered by the GF1's built-in flash.

Spent $40 on some decent shape 146cm K2's with Marker M1000 bindings (MAN are they easy to re-size!) for the gf (we're going to Wildcat next weekend). Pray for snow!

^ **** me boots? What, to draw the attention away from your teef?
stiiiiiiiilll waiting...
it's rad. I thought it might be too skinny, but it's not and we LOVE ours. Get Magicprefs if you haven't already.
yeah, Dad's got one, it's amazing. I'm glad they didn't come out immediately after we bought ours or I'd be pissed. i7 and ports and the width make it amazing. It's the same height resolution as our 24, but a few inches wider which makes a TON of difference for running 2 programs side by side. I thought 24" was massive when we got it, but now it's still nice and big, but for coding I could REALLY use the ability to go side by side with 2 windows...
