It won't be a problem 90% of the time but where i struggled was in AI Servo on both my 85mm & 28mm while they were dancing. I was shooting @ f/2.2 so there wasn't exactly a lot of room for error. I just basically got a lot of 3/4 length shots instead of full length because I couldn't use the top point at all by then.

what sort of light did you have (ie what ISO and shutter @ 2.2)?

I've yet to have an issue with center obviously, and I focus -> recompose a TON w/o accuracy issues. I'll use outer points at times even in low light, but you have to be on top of the contrast you're putting them on, they work one direction, not the other (and I can't remember which).

    1/60, f/2.2, 2500 iso with a 580 on top.

Center worked great as well for me, but not the outer points. I would have no problem recomposing with one shot AF like I normally do if they weren't dancing!

the 580 didn't help (not firing, just with AF)?

but yeah, you're basically at the same light I am when there's motion towards/away from the camera there are issues.

psssssssst, hey, that shots awful noisy.

and damn, that's crazy. I knew my stretching mine over a month killed some of it's life, but 2k+? And if you killed that last 20% you'd be closer to 3k than 2...

yea, Im really impressed the battery life. Minimal histogram check when in M a couple times through the day, but otherwise it holds up much better than my 30d/40d ever did.

that is awesome battery life, but i totally believe it. Sitting with lots of time between shots it seems to last forever, so on a fresh charge in a good light situation with minimal chimping, hells yeah. M mode has minimal metering too right? so it helps keep energy usage low?

No idea on the metering energy use Dan, but this def means im not getting a grip, Im really liking the smaller size even when shooting in portrait aspect 80% of the time.

Metering is on in M mode, it's just up to you to read the exposure scale.

The battery rocks on the 5DMll. I have 3 batteries thinking I was going to run through them at the Texas Mile. I barely needed 2 of them for that event. Now I have a battery for sale

BTW, used 50 ISO for the first time yesterday, here's the reduced DR in an example where it's pretty easy to see:

the blinking highlight deal REALLY showed it when chimping as the sun went from a white circle to a big blob in the sky.

this is the PPed image (it's actually 2 different images to get the water how I wanted it):

Is that the Low ISO setting that shows up when you go below 100?

**** me Running. I shot my buddy's brand spanking new 5DMKII and 70-200 F/2.8 IS.
I am seriously wishing I hadn't touched that camera.
Shot and edited a portrait I shot at F/2.8 IS03200 1/60th and it was butter, so clean. I am lusting even more for a MKII.
You can look at files all day long online, but until you shoot the camera and edit a file, you cannot really appreciate it, at least I can't.

My timing was perfect, I slid the card across the counter, dropped a total of about $3700 with battery grip and spare stuff like I always get and the 24-105 IS f/4.0 lens.

Got home, septic water bubbling up in yard, call plumber, get screwed out of $200 while they actually broke more stuff in the system, then freaked out saying they were not "septic" licensed, they hauled ass. While waiting for them to show up my Toshiba laptop died to compliment the death of my Dell a few months before....had to get a replacement same day since I use it for work/home, then came the payoff on the Bathroom tile I bought, $1100 gone, then paying to have it installed because I had not found time in the last 5 months to do it, Layla paid most of this but another $1200 or so gone, then my car broke which required $800 in parts, then another $480 in parts, then a few more unexpected expenses, travel expenses, unplanned death "in family" expenses....it just kept racking up.

I am almost broke really, paying down the emergency card as fast as I can...but wait, here comes Christmas!

Still, I have to admit, I would do it all over again and I am one jew-ish f@cker when it comes to debt, the 5d Mark 2 is that f-ing good!

I honestly can't wait to be able to afford a good Nikon -> EOS adapter though, so I can play with it with my Nikkors. It's funny, it's biggest drawback is it's AF (-vs- the D700) so now that that part doesn't work, using MF lenses with it makes a LOT more sense.

yeah.... I can't justify buying the 5D MkII unless it hits below 2k....

I already made a spreadsheet with resale values of all my EF-S lenses and my 50D setup. Basically, I need the net price of the 5D after all is said and done to be below 500 bucks.... ahhh i hate deals sometimes!!

I am so big user who use camera in daily motion, i have canon camera and i like to use this one only forever.
I like this because of its resolution of graphics and more pixel ability to catch any moments very clearly and fastly.
So any new up dation in canon then please post that, i am surely to buy that one.

    Have a well that.

It's looking like the new firmware is coming!

    Coming Soon

The new firmware for the 5D Mark II will arrive the week of March 17, 2010. This seems to be close to the NAB show.

The information briefly appeared on the Canon UK web site, it’s now gone at the URL I was given.

    Features
    Live Histogram for Video
    Sound Level Control
    24p/25p

    No word on 60fps yet.

I’ve also heard there may be sound level meters, count this feature as a CR2 rumor.

More info on the subject to come.
    http://www.canonrumors.com/2010/02/5...mware-release/

    From Warsaw, Poland
This slide is from a presentation today in Poland. The firmware features were being presented alongside Apple’s Final Cut Pro.

Note there is no 60fps @ 720p listed.

    Asking the obvious question now

Can these features be added to the 1D Mark IV and 7D? I can understand if they don’t want to put them into the T2i, there has to be some differences between an $800 camera and a $2500 camera.

I thank Canon for adding tons of features to a product over its lifetime. I wouldn’t be upset if they didn’t add it to my 1D Mark IV, maybe it’s better to have one camera that is more video geared than the others?

    We shall see!

It's really interesting to see new features being released for a camera this late into the game, rather than just bug fixes.
