    Default  Wacom tablet

My wife got a Wacom pen and tablet for her birthday. So naturally, I had to take it over for some time today to see what it can do..

Now keep in mind, I'm not much of an artist, but I think the drawing turned out okay for my first attempt.

I did it all in PS. I know it's pretty rough, and I screwed up some of my layers, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. The device is really cool. The pen has 512 levels of sensitivity, and you can just flip it over to use the pressure sensitive eraser. This opens up a whole new aspect to photo editing.

It's the Bamboo. I think it's great for the price. It would be nice to have a Cintiq, but they're damn expensive.

nice, I'm impressed. I tried one and couldn't get the hang of it. The fact that it takes desk space and our desk is in the living room didn't help though.
    I own this joint!

I have limited desk space, so I ended up just holding the tablet in my lap. It definitely takes some getting used to..

lol, you wouldn't want to mess with the one I have then... lol.

    Wacom Intuos4 Pen Tablet

    10 x 14.6 x 0.5 inches

lol, it's not small at all...

I love it though, it makes working on images a breeze! plus the programmable shortcuts with the screens to tell me what I set them to last is pleasure. They have dropped the price bit time on it. it's down to $309.00 on amazon right now.

I love my wacom for working in Photoshop. If you can drop the extra cash on a cintiq you'll love drawing tablets 1000x more

the only problem I have with the bamboo is that they haven't updated it to be rectangular like most newer screens. They should update it so that it matches the dimensional proportions of the widescreen in general instead of a 4:3. I think that most newer computer screens are a 16X10 format if I remember correctly.

I still have a Bamboo tablet that I keep with my laptop for working on this at school or when I'm out and about. They are great tablets. I'm just not much of a fan of the styling of the "Bamboo fun" I like the style of the original Bamboo more. Flat, I don't like how thick the newer model got with the curved edges and all.

The price of them though is pretty damn good though so it's kind of hard to truly fault it. plus it gives you a hell of a leg up on control no matter what model you get. Also you can remap the active area pretty easily to your style of screen but then you just have an inactive area of the tablet then. Just look at the settings panel and you'll be able to set it up however you like.

I think they beat you to it. My wife's bamboo looks is either 16x10 or 16x9. My monitor is 16x9 and it looks like it's the same aspect ratio.

interesting, they must have released a new bamboo.

actually after looking at the stuff on amazon, damn... They really upped the game on the new ones. I'm going to have to see if I can update mine... lol.

does the one you got have the new touch features? that looks really damn cool. I think I'll have to upgrade my one for the laptop and see what's up. the price is about the same as the one I have now when I got it new.... like 5 years ago.

No touch, it's just the pen and pad. We looked at the touch one, but I just don't see the point of it. I already have a mouse and keyboard, and the pen adds a pressure sensitive input. I don't know what the touch aspect would add other than a few shortcuts.

idk, the touch pad has multi touch and would allow you to move around the project really quick while you are using the pen to do touch ups. I'm definitely going to have to look at getting the touch/pen model when I update my laptop equipment.

True, that would come in handy. Although I have mine set where if you push button #1 on the pen it switches to the hand tool to move the work around, and the wheel at the top is the zoom tool. Then I have The buttons at the top set to undo and redo, and the ones below it are smaller and larger brush sizes. I would be able to work pretty fast with it if I had any drawing skill.

So does the pen and touch basically work like a track pad in place of your mouse and then use the stylus when you need to do editing? If so, it sure would be nice to eliminate the mouse especially since the tablet will take up so much room.

I'm not entirely sure if it will replace the mouse but it does seem to be a possibility that it may..

I'm still debating on this for my computer, I already have the intuos 4 but this new pad would be rather nice for my traveling setup. I still have an old wacom bamboo that I keep in my laptop case.

If Jobs weren't so anti-stylus, it really would have been cool for the track pad to be pressure sensitive like the wacom. I'm tired of trying to be accurate in editing use a trackpad or even mouse.

I use a track ball mouse on both my tower and laptop.
