    Default  Cherry Blossoms...

Something a bit different from me. Shot these while killing some time with Al the other day before meeting up with Mark. Curious to see what you guys think.

    Wow! Love #1 and #3!

I cannot wait for the Cherry blossoms buds outside our townhouse to spring forth in their spring glory here ...hopefully *&^%$* soon!

Ok, maybe it's me, but I love that three shows the buds in three stages of opening. That is cool. And then the out of focus branches all have the same upward bend really flows.

#3 is my fave because of this, nice flow. #1 the others on that branch are distracting to me #2 is nice.

Thanks guys. #3 is my favorite for the reasons listed. Wish I had a zoom in this case though, since I think the effect would have looked better with a longer focal length and a bit more distance from the subject. 20mm on the GF1 is a pretty poor focal length to try to shoot this kind of thing with.

Does the bokeh strike anyone as a bit busy on these shots?

To be completely honest none of these are really grabbing me - and it's definitely because of the busy bokeh. Your comps are great (as usual) but your equipment is failing you here. There are things that the gf1/20 combo is awesome for but shooting close ups with a busy background just ain't one of them. A longer focal length would definitely help.

Agreed, Jeff - I think this is a situation in which having the 14-45mm would have really helped. I usually have my Voigtlander with me when I'm "planning" on shooting, but I left it behind for this trip. But really, even it stopped down to the degree it would need to be might not be as ideal as the 14-45mm wide-open.

It would be interesting to see the difference between this and a 40mm shot from your D700.

The best I could do is 50mm on the D700, but I could crop the GF1 shot. I actually have a little time to kill waiting for the baby to wake up from a nap so I can continue some projects in the unit, so I'll go snap some examples.
