Ok I dont really know where to ask this but wanted to get people's opinions on choice of apeture for shooting particularly large buildings from reasonably close, like the same block or across the street, is there any point, esp at night to close to apeture up to get maximal DOF or is something that large and from that distance make it irrelevant?
For example I shot this at
ISO 160
exposure 3 sec
f 14.0
13mm
why 14? I just kind of picked it arbritrary as im trying different settings in different situations as part of my learning curve.
but im wonder if it makes any different if i shot it wide open at f2.8 or f 5-6, would it have ended up focusing on the fountain and blurred the tower in the background, or is the actual object so far away both would have come in sharp anyway? or lets say there was no fountain there like this shot
![]()
so AF has only one primary object to lock on, again, would varying up the apeture affect the final product much? I used to shoot wide open at night all the time to maximize light entry but my understanding of its effects on DOF was pretty poor at that time so I wonder how much detail I lost in the architecture in those shots...
and yes i prob could have shot at all those but I was shooting full manual and didnt feel like calculating the proper shutter speed to match each time, I had a busy shooting night on the vegas strip.
What are other people's thoughts.
