The Cinefoil Thread...
|
|
|

|
I was putting away some lighting gear, saw my roll of Cinefoil and thought "You know, I don't think I've seen a single reference to Cinefoil on NSOP" - I did a search, and I was right!
So, this is a thread dedicated to this wonderful invention, which I use on nearly every shoot to block light off on my flashes, fashion makeshift snoots, etc. This is essentially a matte-black version of aluminum foil. If you do a lot of light modification and don't have a roll of it, it's a worthwhile investment (along with a roll of gaffer tape, of course).

Obligatory shots of me using said material...

WARNING: The following shot is probably NSFW for most people, but it shows you the shot this went into, and is just kind of funny:

No, in the photo posted I was forming it into a snoot, to make a "dot" of light on a particular area. It's how I did the "Fire" shot with the glowing pubic hair, if you're familiar with my abstract nude stuff.

One roll will last you forever though. It's pretty thick, so it's easy to re-use. Look at it from the perspective of what you're saving on - don't have to buy snoots, barn doors, small gobos, whatever. It's very versatile.

if it's that thick and reusable (to a limited extent of course), that's a little better.

But, will it BLEND?!?!
pretty neat Sam, need to check it out. I use thin foam for most of my DIY stuff, but its a bit too pliable.

Please advise period
I <3 cinefoil. It was invaluable on my latest bodyscapes shots, to light up the front of the miniatures but nothing else.
