    Default  DIY ringflash

finally got around to building my own ringflash. i read about it on a few sites with a few variations and it seemed to me that this one would be the nicest. i'm still working on building a better bracket system, but this will hold fine until i get to home depot. i'm triggering the flash using the ebay slaves. i just posted this in the lighting forum too. it's fun, let me know if you have any questions. (p.s. check out my new 40D!!! woot!)

So what is the big advantage on this to make it worth all the work?

i might just spring for the $xx.xx for a ringflash though, i don't know if i'm as handy as norm abrahms, errr talon.

    a ring flash is $XXX.XX

I've really wanted to do this the ring reflections and soft shadows make it worth it.

I've also seen variations with 120v light bulbs on a bracket. It would be put on a tripod and the camera shot through the center.

even the lighting out in the ring. But to do that you'll need another flash, or switch to another light source that you can get more of inexpensively (I've seen this idea done with household bulbs in a circle).

please take into account Im a cheap bastard
Mine slips over the lense hood of my 28-75, and I hand trigger it...the speedlight is off of my old AE-1, I dont have a flash for my XT

I've also made a grid snoot out of cocktail straws and cardboard, and a soft box out of a model box and tissue paper...work great and cost nothing...I mount it to the flash body using blue painters tape

i don't think that i can hand trigger my 430ex. the only thing i have noticed on it is a test fire.

test fire is the same thing, my flash is low power, small and the adjustment available seem to do nothing.
I get real even lighting out of mine though
