I have been doing this since I got my camera. Originally it was with the standard strap, and then I changed to the NSOP strap.

I put a keyring into the strap hoop on the camera and then got a small carabiner and attached the strap to it. I can clip to the camer and unclip easily, along with just sliding the camera up to shoot. So much better than a normal strap setup.

    Nice work!

I have the RS-4 strap that is referenced in the link, but I like the idea of using one of the camera's strap eyelets, along with a keychain loop, to clip to. The R-Strap system cannibalizes the tripod socket, and kinda makes it a pain to lay the camera down anywhere.

Looks like some sewing is required for the camera side connections?

yeah, it does in his setup, but I think you could do it with webbing and buckles w/o stitching if you wanted to.
    I own this joint!

The old LowePro strap I had allowed this type of setup, except the strap part was never long enough. I was thinking of getting one of the Luma Loops for everyday kinda stuff, since i have the dual rapid strap for weddings.. and the luma loop passed 250 lbs on a swinging strap and didnt break - /me is impressed
