Default  Polarizing Gel - Anyone got some?

    Hey Guys -
I have a project where I need to be able to polarize my lightsource. My local pro-shop has some polarizing film that's about $50 for a 6"x6" square. I was wondering if:

    • Anyone already has some film they want to sell cheap
    • Have a need for this kind of thing and want to split a sheet
    • Have another work around for creating polarized light with a couple speedlights.

Finally found the stuff on B&H - much better price. $40 for a 17x20" sheet:

I need enough for two speedlights - you think it would cover 'em?

my sample is literally only enough to cover one 430 EX sized speedlight head. it was a part of a super sample freebie pack thing

Ah, right. Bummer. Yeah, I'd need enough for two flashes and I'd even use it on the lens I suspect.

I caved and just bought the ridiculously expensive sheet.

It definitely cuts down on the glare, but it's not completely eliminating the lightsource from the shot as I was hoping. I think I can work with it though.

You can try adding a polarizer on your lens too, to help cut down on whatever reflection you're getting. What material are you trying to shoot?

Yeah, you can't really do what I'm doing without using polarizers on the lens and the lightsource. The material is plexiglass. Tried the setup tonight and it's just not going to work out for the effect I was going for. To get the right kind of falloff I'd have to use something like a ringflash, which would show up way too much in the final shot. Oh well.

What are you trying to accomplish? There might be a better way of doing it.

if i remember right automotive window tint is polarized. might try going to the local tint shop and asking for some scraps. they also have a few different flavors you could play with.
