Default  How do I make this work?

You've probably seen the macro shots I've posted recently from my DIY TS/macro lens.

I've discovered that I can make it even more super-macro by adding my 2x extender, well... sort of.

In this first pic, you see the entire assembly. Notice the tiny metallic object near my lupe? Yeah, that fills the entire frame with the extender.

With only the DIY lens in place, it takes photos with no problem. (mounted to the camera by a modified body cap = no camera/lens communication)

Here's the problem: With the extender mounted, there is a communication error and it will not record the image.

    Who can help??

    EDIT: IBputtapeoverthecontacts.

BTW: I can also use stack lupe in the first photo on top of this lens and make it work... the results are a little wierd, kinda reminds me of a Lensbaby. That thing is like 20 years old, and the plastic optic is not exactly pristine.

Alright, since no one offered any other solutions, I very carefully placed some high-quality masking tape over the contacts in the body, then mounted the lenses. This works (I knew it would), but I was hoping someone might have a better solution for me.

I have noticed no degradation in IQ, but the lens seems to front-focus now.

    3 is rad!

i guess the problem arises because the extender doesn't know how to interpret no lens being attached, whereas the camera does.

    ^ yep.

And yep to taping the pins. I have to do that now with the 5Dii or I get the same error. Of course using ONLY converted lenses W/O chips works perfectly for me as well.

tape those pins!!! (or get a non-reporting TC)

If/when I get a kenko 1.4x, I want to try it with my reversed 18-55 (already near 3x+ mag)
