    Default  My $5 Beauty Dish:

    Results:

    Refer to http://www.newschoolofphotography.co...ead.php?t=9569 - Shots 1,3, & 5 are with the flash.

    Setup:

    $1 12" plastic bowl
    $3.50 1.5" elastic strap (3')
    Tape, epoxy
Leftover white cotton fabric (1x1' square)

Cut square hole to fit your flash, epoxy the strap with just enough reach to secure the BD onto the flash. Tape fabric taunt.

It does pretty well distributing the light:

In most cases I used a 3' cord (add $40) to get the flash off camera, but it works attached to the cam too. I built a handheld flash bracket using 2' of PVC pipe and a 1/4"-20 bolt (add $1.50) epoxied to the top. I angled the bolt to counteract the angle of the BD.

The only problem I've found is it blocks the AF Assist beams. If I build another I'd like to find a way around that, either using a smaller dish, or contouring the dish. Also it's a pain to cut holes in cheap plastic dishes, you'll end up with a lot of cracks, but they don't really effect anything.

I'll get pictures of the bracket and the back of the BD soon. Not a whole lot of mystery surround that though.
