I thought this was interesting because of the lighting. Adjusted in DPP with Highlight and Shadow indicators on to find the right compromise. Taken late afternoon.

Took this one with this assignment in mind, specifically. Top of Mammoth Mountain, coming out of the lodge. 11,000 ft. over the Eastern Sierras.

Todd, awesome shot. Love the mountains in the background!

Shrugged, WELCOME TO THE FORUM! I like the symmetry of your shot but I wish the top of the closer arch wasn't cut off.

Welcome Shrugged, I really like that picture.

One comment is that the pathway outside is "blown out" (too bright, lost details). Its very easy to do when you are metering such a diverse frame (bright and dark areas). Maybe next time try under exposing a tad to get that detail back (will make inside arch darker. Also, maybe a tighter crop on the interior arch. You don't gain anything from the white wall to the left and the silver box. Maybe even a portrait orientation.

    Great first post!!

Shrugged--welcome, and is that Duke University?? If so, are you in Durham? Just curious (I live in Durham and work ~ a block away from East Campus.

Thanks guys! I knew the composition was a little off (the top of the arch and the wall on the left), but those sounds like some great tips to work on. I'll keep the underexposure idea in mind too. I think I need to get better at interpreting the histogram.

Yep, that's Duke. I'm actually in Detroit. I was down visiting a friend a few weeks ago, when it was 98 and humid every day.

You say that like I don't know how it is...

It's actually really pretty here today, though.

Well, from what I heard from my friend, it usually doesn't get like that for you guys until later in the summer. Maybe he was just talking the place up. I think the week I was down there it was hot everywhere!
