The theme for this Assignment is: AfterDark. I thought of this on my way into work this AM. With the meteor shower this weekend I know some of us will be trying this anyway, but "Afterdark" opens it up to a world of other possibilities for anyone who wants to stay inside or shoot in a more urban setting. This is also a great way to help people learn how to get good shots at night.

Guidelines (just to keep us all on track)

• Photo(s) must relate to the Theme in some way. Creative relation to the theme is certainly allowed (and encouraged). Anything that is related in some way is legal.
• Assignment officially starts August 9th and will run through August 20th at noon (giving everyone 2 weekends).
• Being "AfterDark" shoot anything you want that happens AFTER SUNSET and BEFORE SUNRISE...
• Only photos that have been shot within the assignment date range are allowed.[/SIZE][/b]
• No signup is required, participation is encouraged regardless of skill or equipment level (after all, its not the camera, it’s the photographer,)…we’re here to have fun.
• Photo size limit: 800px on the longest side
• Basically, photograph however you like and normally do…whatever photography is to you. As many (or few) bodies/lenses/formats//Post-processing as you’d like. Sticking to basic PP is encouraged, tho’.
• If you’d like, post brief but relevant photo information and note PP (if any) is done (*Free GIMP software*). Maintain EXIF data if possible.
• Keep comments on topic, constructive, and considerate.
• posting finals shots in diptych or triptych form is strongly encouraged.
• Have fun!

But I did capture some good shots of a passing storm the other night.

2 weird things though (more technical than anything else):
1) there looks to be noise in the clouds in both shots??? But they're shot at 100ISO? Were they possibly oversharpened?
2) the blue purple color in shot 2 looks "blown out". IE no color gradation left. Maybe you added a hair too much saturation on the blue channel?

they are great lightning shots though. How were you releasing (I noticed 33 seconds, so bulb with a trigger?)?

Yeah, both shots were RAW processed on a laptop, so there very well may be issues that I can't see in the final image. I think I may have a problem with oversharpening on this screen. Also, I added no color saturation to either shot, but the blue in shot 2 was obtained by tweaking the white balance.

And yeah, shooting bulb with a remote release.

Oh I know all about overdoing things on a bad monitor... Remember when my work CRT was going out...

We went to VT this weekend to visit a great friend from college.
We ended up going through Shelburne Farms and I was checking out these sheep JUST after sunset, IE my definition of "after dark" for this assignment...

all shot with my 5D, all after SUNSET... And all processed with CS3! It's decent OK, but I'm not sure if there is enough difference to warrant changing. I'll have to play around with the RAW editor that now works on JPEGs.

I decided to finally start searching for angles of Rochester to shoot a pano. I don't really like this angle I've decided.

The image is 5 frames stitched in PT Assembler. Each is exposed at ISO 100, f/8.0 for 20 seconds with noise reduction off.

I'm getting weird white horizontal lines on some peoples pictures. Is anybody else seeing these?

At first I thought they were put there intentionally, but the more I look and scroll up/down they go away after I do that.

I'm travelling to Ojibwe ProRally this weekend and might take a trip to Itasca State Park (headwaters of the mississippi)
