Default  Artistic Assignment #4 (Speed!) COMPLETED.

The theme for this Assignment is: Speed. I figured since most of us are here from a car forum anyway it should be something we can all come up with ideas for and we'll all enjoy. This doesn't HAVE to be car related or even vehicle related, just anything YOU think deals with SPEED in any way shape or form.

Guidelines (just to keep us all on track)

    * Photo(s) must relate to the Theme in some way. Creative relation to the theme is certainly allowed (and encouraged). Anything that is related in some way is legal.
    * Assignment officially starts August 24th and will run through September 3nd at noon (giving everyone 2 weekends)[this has been pushed back one day to give everyone the entire 3 day weekend!].
    * Only photos that have been shot within the assignment date range are allowed.[/SIZE][/b]
    * No signup is required, participation is encouraged regardless of skill or equipment level (after all, its not the camera, it’s the photographer,)…we’re here to have fun.
    * Photo size limit: 800px on the longest side
    * Basically, photograph however you like and normally do…whatever photography is to you. As many (or few) bodies/lenses/formats//Post-processing as you’d like. Sticking to basic PP is encouraged, tho’.
    * If you’d like, post brief but relevant photo information and note PP (if any) is done (*Free GIMP software*). Maintain EXIF data if possible.
    * Keep comments on topic, constructive, and considerate.
    * posting finals shots in diptych or triptych form is strongly encouraged.
    * Have fun!

Thread format shamelessly cut and pasted from Satan's post. Thanks.

I just like the colors Also, this is what driving long distances on the highway at night feels like to me anyway so I like the blurriness.

still working on something to shoot for this!

Yep, I started my revised car mount. I should have it in and ready by Friday night at the latest. So I'll definitely be able to shoot with it this weekend. I'm also going to try the tripod in both cars.

Oh, and I'm going to extend the deadline to Tuesday considering the holiday.

Well this is handy considering I spent the weekend at Mosport raceway for the ALMS series - might as well get some use out of the photos.

Sorry I forgot to add that in the info - they were all shot at ISO 100, as I was after longer shutter times I figured I would go for that extra quality.

It's a great working lens, probably one of my favorites for shooting cars at the track. If I wasn't after so much background/wheel blur they would come out sharper still. I'll try to get some examples up in the gallery latter.

Put a few more shots up in the fine gallery located here - http://www.newschoolofphotography.co...g2_itemId=1053

    Very nice bob!
Personally I like full car shots most, and I love good pans, so that middle Acura shot is my favorite by far.
How did the diesel sound? I missed ALMS this year at lime rock for out Canada trip, and last year (2006) Limerock was the final race for the R8...

Just checkout your gallery, You have some great shots in there too!

Thanks! I had a lot of fun taking them.
This is the second year for the Audi Diesel up here and the thing you notice the most about it is how quiet the thing is. I missed a bunch of shots last year because I didn't hear it coming up over a hill.

Here are two from me... not as good as I'd hoped, but it was hard to keep these dogs running in the heat. Both of these were RAWs converted using RawShooter, with some levels adjustments and sharpening.

    Nikon D70, 300mm, f5.6, 1/125, ISO 200

    135mm, f5.0, 1/320, ISO 200

    A little fun after work:

Not sure I like the first pic at all. And not sure which wheelie pic I like better. The first time he put the front wheel so close to my head I ran away screaming like a little girl. It looked HUGE in the viewfinder.

Funny I kinda like the first one the best, it might have a bit of blur but it sure does give you a sense of motion.

a crappy pan of my dog on the beach:

    *Model = Canon EOS 5D
    *Exposure Time = 1/250"
    *F Number = F11
    *Exposure Program = Shutter priority
    *ISO Speed Ratings = 200

had a few problems with the dog. One was that I Fd up the pan so it looks like crap. The other issue (which was part of the pan issue) was that I'd call the dog and he'd run AT me and I was trying to shoot him from the side... So I'd move at the last second, but the blur wouldn't be right. The car shots came out pretty well though. We just shot them in the MINI because my tripod happens to fit perfectly in the back seat. I just had my wife put her hand on the front leg but that wasn't even necessary.

Dogs are hard to shoot when they respond best to you.

I've tried some with my fiancee but when she calls/gives the commands the dog still always looks at me. This was the best I could do with Indy this weekend prior (yes thats a hobie cat in the background).

Man, I thought I would be the only one to put up a dog pic. Sadly, my dog was lazy when we went to the park and we only got a few crappy ones. I'll try to put something up when I get home.

We had no power this weekend due to the weather(and 34 power poles falling over), so I didn't get much done.

    Here's a late entry:

    # Camera model: NIKON D50
    # Date/Time: 2007:08:26 08:07:27
    # Resolution: 800 x 532
    # Flash used: No
    # Focal length: 200.0mm (35mm equivalent: 300mm)
    # Exposure time: 0.0012 s (1/800)
    # Aperture: f/2.8
    # Whitebalance: Auto
    # Metering Mode: matrix
    # Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)

The greyhound was OOF, so it took a little PP to fix it as much as I could. I'm certainly not proud of this one, but felt guilty not participating.

I don't think I've come up with a decent entry for the assignments yet!
