Re: Getting homework setup... |
I guess we could mimic the topics on OT (there's only so many more topics we can make up). I suggest having two 'assignments' at a time, with the due date of one 1 week after the other assignment, and we can choose to do either or both of them. Instead of one week, like in t3h OT, how about two weeks, for more participation?
To avoid criticism do nothing, say nothing, be nothing.

Re: Getting homework setup... |
So what you're saying, in a less cryptic way, is that a new assignment will start every week and its duration will be two weeks.

Re: Getting homework setup... |
Aren't the assignments at OT more like a friendly contest, with voting and all?
What if we use this forum for actual homework assignments. Like one assignment that concentrates on depth of field, another assignment for exposure, one for shutter speed, etc. That way we could use this forum for practice and concentrate on improving skill, while teh OT contests would be more for fun?
Does that make sense?

Oh, i like that idea. So we could expand on those topics, with like shallow DOF, Landscapes.. etc.. this idea's awesomeOriginally Posted by tardypizza

Afterall, this forum is all about improving photogs' skill. I think it would work.

Re: Getting homework setup... |
I think it would be good to have a regular themed contest as well. Since everyone wants to have one starting every week why not have them alternate theme - "homework" -theme -"homework" and so on?

Re: Getting homework setup... |
If we do that we should have a "contest" forum underneath the "homework" forum. Each with their own assignments and threads to keep it more organized.Originally Posted by emorphien

Re: Getting homework setup... |
We should also have contests based on the theme previously discussed in the 'workshop/hw'. (like maybe a contest the month after the hw, but we may need to get this going before we can do that)Originally Posted by tardypizza

Re: Getting homework setup... |
lol, I'm watching the America's Cup at work today so I'm busy....
I like the 2 week duration, but a new one every week idea as then we always have 2 to work with...
Also how bout one that works as "homework/assignment" where it's work on DOF, shutterspeed, texture, whatever, then another category that's a "contest" or something bases on a subject like "doors" "cars" "green" or other things like that... I'm not too sure we want to make them full on contests though as voting could get ugly. I prefer the open critique of the images in the assignments/contest over a vote as then there are no losers but just everyone improving...
thoughts?

I would really like to concentrate on improving my skill, so I would like to see aspect based challenges.

I'd like to see something where a critique is required (suggested).
Obviously a beatdown wouldn't help anyone but I'd welcome constructive criticism and/or feedback.
Just a thought.
Oh, I see there's a critique forum but it may be nice to do something like this with homework as well.

Re: Getting homework setup... |
I like the idea of doing offset challenges too. Stagger them so one week starts a "technique" challenge.... then the next starts a "theme" challenge.
And this is where Gallery2 could be a good thing Ben. It allows comments and voting. If we could put our stuff in a gallery where everyone could critique it and rate it... could be cool.

Re: Getting homework setup... |
yeah, I'm looking into both gallery2 and or attachments. For now we'll stick with find something yourself and if that's not working I'll do something... I have gallery 2 running on a different domain, but until I figure it out for just me I'm not going to try to run something for a group quite yet... lol...
But yes, I would love to offer some sort of hosting for us so that we can do more with this. I think gallery2 might be the answer, I just need to play with it more and get it sorted. This whole thing is a GIANT learning process for me, so hopefully we can keep the interest up while I stumble through everything.
