Default  Homework Assignment #2 (Frames!) COMPLETED!

    OK, second homework assignment!

The theme for this Assignment is: frames!. I've really been surprised by how much better a frame can make a photo look. It really adds something to it. That's the reason I put together a tutorial on how to do it, now I'm making everyone (who cares about homework) try it!!!

Guidelines (just to keep us all on track)
    • Photo(s) can be of anything you like, new or old. I suggest you post simple before and after (FRAMED) shots.
    • Assignment will be ongoing, so that everyone can post what they've come up with that they like!!!
    • No signup is required, participation is encouraged regardless of skill or equipment level (after all, its not the camera, it’s the photographer,)…we’re here to have fun.
    • Photo size limit: 800px on the longest side
    • Basically, add a frame to a photo of yours, and post how it looks before and after.
    • If you’d like, post relevant information oh how you did your frame.
    • Keep comments on topic, constructive, and considerate.
    • Have fun!

Thread format shamelessly cut and pasted from Satan's post. Thanks.

That makes things really easy. I'll give your method a shot Ben, as well as a few techniques I've seen elsewhere.

and here's someone else's tutorial on borders:

I'll be trying the ones from that last link today.

I'm just saying you're taking great photos, but I really think they could benefit from some frames is all... Look at how much better they look in a simpleviewer show that has borders turned on.

I've never been much for mucking with borders. If I add one it's always been rather simple.

I agree that they shouldn't be noticed, but it's like an online version of the mat IMHO. They really dress the shots up IMHO.

When I first saw the assignment title I thought we'd framing our subject in the composition somehow. This seems quite do-able even for a procrastinator like me. I already have a few ideas.

first!1 I've always liked my frames to be subtle, but i thought making the frame a bit bolder might 'add' to this picture.

EDIT: exif info: ISO 800 (no noise reduction used), 1/250, f/13, 24mm

Thanks! I just added the exif info, but basically my 'studio' was just two leather chairs from the dining room. (the back of one facing the other chair, forming an open cube) and i used my 420ex mounted on my camera, with the head facing some wierd position (i think down, sideways, and to the left)

I really surprised to find so little noise in my picture at ISO 800 on a rebel. wierd?

Would be more noticeable if NSOP's background wasn't such a light gray. I do like the drop shadow, though.

Thanks mike on POTN made a frame script thinger thats where this one came from. I would like to get one like ben made there or a picture of a 35mm negitive frame. Looks cool. i can make some neat ones with film in a dark room so i might just scan one of them and try it.
