    Default  Artistic Assignment #6 (Shapes) COMPLETED!

    The theme for this Assignment is dramatic Shapes. This has TONS of possibilities, so everyone should be able to come up with something.

    Guidelines (just to keep us all on track)

    * Photo(s) must relate to the Theme in some way. Creative relation to the theme is certainly allowed (and encouraged). Anything that is related in some way is legal.
    * Assignment is officially finished.
    * Only photos that have been shot within the assignment date range are allowed.
    * No signup is required, participation is encouraged regardless of skill or equipment level (after all, its not the camera, it’s the photographer,)…we’re here to have fun.
    * Photo size limit: 800px on the longest side
    * Basically, photograph however you like and normally do…whatever photography is to you. As many (or few) bodies/lenses/formats//Post-processing as you’d like. Sticking to basic PP is encouraged, tho’.
    * If you’d like, post brief but relevant photo information and note PP (if any) is done (*Free GIMP software*). Maintain EXIF data if possible.
    * Keep comments on topic, constructive, and considerate.
    * Have fun!

    Dramatic Shapes? So should they be performing Hamlet?

    Okay, here we go--didn't get a chance to get anything really dramatic while at the beach, but here are my entries:

    I think the b/w version of this one is more dramatic:

    and I'll throw in this one for its "dramatic" perspective (and it does have shapes!):

    I wanted to post up a photo of a Gallardo or something dramatic like that, but they are sort of hard to find around here.....

    I only see the first 2, but they difinately have some great shapes in them. The B+W works perfect for the assignment, but the sky in the color shot looks awesome. Maybe play with the contrast in the B+W conversion because the clouds lose a bit as well as the bottom 2 windows. Those lower bars have a great shape to them that is lost in the conversion.

    3rd picture fixed and first picture contrast adjusted.

    Thanks as always for the input.

    This was perfect timing for this assignment. I went to Chicago for the weekend and had a blast.

    Markitos,

    Personally, I like the color version of your 1st shot better. The red window frames and bars provide a great color combination with the blue sky and clouds. And you can get a sense of feeling of the "oldness" of the building from the deterioration and discoloring of the brick. While I do enjoy the b&w version as well, I think the color version says more about the subject.

    Wyn,

    Great shots, too! One of my favorite things to photograph is architecture and you both have submitted nice shots.

    Now, if I could just get mine in....

    Wyn, great shots... Perfect for the assignment, and nicely done... OK I was going to shoot trains for this assignment, but we ran out of time this weekend so that idea got derailed... Anyway, Nikki said she'd let me shoot her in place of the trains in order to get home in time to make dinner... Fair enough trade off, and it forced me to work with people and strobes which I don't normally do... So here are the shots, let me know which you like better (color or B+W):

    So I didn't get a bunch of time to do this, I was on vacation on my big road trip. I did find these though on a trail in Shenandoah NP. Haven't had time to mess with other borders too much, or really even process the other pics yet.

    My fiancee was great at finding things for shapes...she's actually the one that found the mushrooms.

    She says: "Hey, those mushrooms are shapes, right?"
