    Default  Homework Assignment #19 (nine) - COMPLETED!

    The theme for this Assignment is "nine". Shoot anything you want.

    Guidelines (just to keep us all on track)

    * Photo(s) must relate to the Theme in some way. Creative relation to the theme is certainly allowed (and encouraged). Anything that is related in some way is legal.
    * Assignment is open from June 1st to June 16th, for 2 weekends inbetween.
    * Only photos that have been shot within the assignment date range are allowed.
    * No signup is required, participation is encouraged regardless of skill or equipment level (after all, its not the camera, it’s the photographer,)…we’re here to have fun.
    * Photo size limit: 800px on the longest side
    * 1.8 = nifty.
    * Basically, photograph however you like and normally do…whatever photography is to you. As many (or few) bodies/lenses/formats//Post-processing as you’d like. Sticking to basic PP is encouraged, tho’.
    * If you’d like, post brief but relevant photo information and note PP (if any) is done. Maintain EXIF data if possible.
    * Keep comments on topic, constructive, and considerate.
    * posting finals shots in diptych or triptych form is strongly encouraged.
    * Have fun!

    Default  hallo

    here's my contribution.

    Personally i think these homework things are awesome! great way for me to try my hand and improve my skills. Is it OK if I attempt an old one and post up for critiquing?

    Sure, critique is fine.

    You may want to make a thread specific for this shot in the critique forum though as it'll work well there and get a bit more exposure.

    I have 3 shots from today for the assignment. Here is one:

    #3

    All three from the same place. It's amazing how many things of 9 you see when looking for them.

    I just tried to take a picture for this. I wanted to get a shot of the 9 on the 90 minute Dogfish IPA. But I couldn't get the 9 sharp and the rest out of focus like I wanted. Is this because I'm using a kit lens that can't get to a low enough aperture?

    If you're talking about the 18-55, yeah, from my experience, you won't be able to get that nice blurred look.

    Consider the 50mm F1.8, for under a $100, I personally think it's one of the best lenses for the value. Then again, I've used 5 different lenses so far.

    I just realized I won't have upload/pp capability until after the 16th, so my submittal will be after that date. I've got some shots taken but will need to check them out on the computer. All of my stuff is packed up for my move.

    Okay, did anyone ever see my dogfish picture? Apparently I suddenly can't hotlink to it...

    I just fixed it. Apparently the "?imgmax=800" is necessary at the end of a URL to hotlink back to Picasa. Meh!

    (I wish I could just have one solution that worked with all the features I wanted with one login, all integrated, and all storage online.)

    My Entry -

    Shot with a softbox made from a shoe box. I cut out a backwards 9 shape, taped cellophane to the inside as a diffuser and a big dot in the middle of the nine.

    This gives the #9 look in the eye.

    Dude - that's *killer* - you're really getting the hang of thinking like a strobist

    My vivitar arrives this week - but I don't get to use it for a while - unless I strobist 4X5

    Thanks. I had a few other ideas, but ran out of time. And you know how you said its amazing how many "9s" you see when you're looking for them? I found the opposite to be true

    Oh well, I'm just glad to be submitting again.
