    * Only photos that have been shot within the assignment date range are allowed.
    * No signup is required, participation is encouraged regardless of skill or equipment level (after all, its not the camera, it’s the photographer,)…we’re here to have fun.
    * Photo size limit: 800px on the longest side

just because walmart is selling the decorations, doesn't mean you have to use them!

not implying that they shop at walmart.

Update: Talked to them this evening, and they were just testing them out to make sure it all worked. They aren't on tonight, thankfully.

Thanks, Matt. I've got "power-on" and "shutter-cap removal" down. Now I just need to learn about where to point the lens

That was a fun time. You guys might not have noticed but I probably paying more attention to your shots than my own. It's all about learning ... I was trying to get a sense for what you guys saw; where you stood and how it affected composition. Can't wait to see your results!

Why do you think I made this thread...

You don't need a timer, this is for only over 1 second... so your shutter speeds should go above 1 second and work with the delay... So you just need to set your camera on something.

Yeah, and the only thing dry in the area was your tripod!

I love that second one. Clearly there's a tree in the way in the first shot. I'm surprised you didn't erase that in photoshop

Yeah, I don't love the centered tree... should have been anywhere else, but I wasn't awake yet damnit (that was my first shot).

I was struggling with coming up with something to shoot, and after 2 weeks of nothing I tried to do some at the Autocross yesterday. It was too bright out, and my basic camera equipment and noob abilities just didn't let it happen.

I like what I'm seeing though - especially the "Donuts on a rope" UFO picture Distorto took.

I'm such a failbot with the last two assignments...

At least I have hundreds of wedding photos to sort through to keep me busy.

    Nice, Texas outing?
And I don't care if people post late... That's why I don't lock threads. The whole point in this section is to try to get people to go shoot when in a rut, and see how other people take a similar theme/assignment.

Nice shot, and **** the big dipper, I see my buddy orion.

Different constellations. The Little Dipper is in the northern sky and has the North Star in its tail. The Pleides, while having a similar shape, takes up a much smaller part of the sky and is located near the ecliptic (the line that the planets follow in the sky). And while the Little Dipper constellation is made up of stars that physically have no relation to each other, the Pleides is an Open Cluster of gravitationally bound stars.

Don't feel bad, I made the same mistake many times long before I knew anything about the sky.

Here's a shot of the Pleides I took through the telescope showing that it's made up of dozens of stars
