The theme for this Assignment is "Self Portraits.". Shoot anything you want.

Guidelines (just to keep us all on track)

* Photo(s) must relate to the Theme in some way. Creative relation to the theme is certainly allowed (and encouraged). Anything that is related in some way is legal.
* Assignment is open from Friday December 7th to Friday December 21st giving you 2 weeks.
* Only photos that have been shot within the assignment date range are allowed.
* No signup is required, participation is encouraged regardless of skill or equipment level (after all, its not the camera, it’s the photographer,)…we’re here to have fun.
* Photo size limit: 800px on the longest side
* Ted rules the world.
* Basically, photograph however you like and normally do…whatever photography is to you. As many (or few) bodies/lenses/formats//Post-processing as you’d like. Sticking to basic PP is encouraged, tho’.
* If you’d like, post brief but relevant photo information and note PP (if any) is done (*Free GIMP software*). Maintain EXIF data if possible.
* Keep comments on topic, constructive, and considerate.
* Have fun!

Now I just have to come up with a self portrait that encapsulates that idea.

Just a warning, this assignment could get ugly. Literally!

For some reason, I've been kinda "meh" about photography lately. Hopefully this could get me motivated again.

Yeah, I'm excited about getting something I like...
I have a few idea, and will be skiing one day before this is over so I'm happy.

OK, I officially suck. I set everything up Sunday to do more Nikki Belly shots and sat down in front of the camera myself...

I looked like ass.
All the shots were out of focus...
and I couldn't come up with anything remotely creative pose wise...



Back to the drawing board.

If it looks off balance, it's because most of the work that I do happens on the right side of my work area.

Not really a secret, I develop interactive training for the Navy. This requires photos, video, animation, etc. I'm pretty much a one man show. Most of the subject matter experts are the ones that get me the content.

Some of the video we've shot and/or edited has ended up on a few Discovery programs.

We were babysitting our sick goddaughter all day... didn't get a lot of rest. Poor baby has a cold and kept waking herself up every time she fell asleep because she was so snotty.... We always love to have her, though. During the 15 minutes she was cheery, we got some cute Christmas photos of her for our friends (her parents).

Nope, just the sigma 10-20 with my face really close. I figured I should use an UWA for my self-portrait, since I use one of my 2 wide angle lenses for pretty much everything. These two were my favs, though I have some other goofy ones, too.

One think I really like about Markitos' pictures are that they're fun - this doesn't always have to be something serious all the time, which is where I was headed with my self portrait.

Thanks, that's what I was going for. They are, I think, an accurate representation of me, at least spiritually. Which is the point of a self-portrait, isn't it?

I have an idea but I don't know if I'll have the energy to pull it off.

I'm going to enjoy this one, I should show off some of my old ones for reference.

^nice, I like the shot alot, my only suggestion would be to brighten it a touch, looks a little underexposed.

I went skiing, took the camera, and came home with a few I'm happy with:

Driving up (-1ºF on the thermometer!):


making sure the camera was working in the gondola:


wishing those "Pho Tog" gloves had arrived:




checking to make sure I wasn't going to drop the camera:


Yeah, froze my hand on those last few. That's half a run w/o anything on my left hand... in ~5ºF temps... But it was worth it IMHO. I got exactly what I wanted image wise.

WHAT IF YOU DROPPED THE CAMERA!!! YOU COULD HAVE KILLED IT!!!

Just kidding. Pretty sweet shots, and looks like you had a good time
