    Default  Warranty work

About what is the normal time for warranty work on lenses?

So in August, I got a Sigma 24-70 f2.8. First I noticed a front focusing issue. It was more than usable, just enough to notice. Then the manual focus went bad a few months later. Therefore, I sent it to Sigma to get fixed. The lens is plenty sharp enough, the contrast is alright. Just seems like quality control is iffy.

Have any others had any experience with Sigma's warranty service? How long should I expect them to have the lens before getting it back? They have only had it for about 3 weeks so I'm not really annoyed or worried, just curious about the usually timeline for this situation.

Never dealt with Sigma for warranty work, don't own anything Sigma.

I did send my EOS 3 in 5 or so years ago with a bum shutter, came back a week later with a whole new shutter assembly. On the whole it seems the companies are all over the place. I've heard quite a few horror stories involving Nikon, and in general from my non-firsthand knowledge it seems Nikon is slower than some other companies, like Canon for example. I've never heard anything particularly bad about Sigma. If you don't get something back until a month has passed, that's not uncommon for some of the companies so if I were in your shoes and I waited this long, I'd try to get a status once a month has passed.

I don't have much experience with warranty work so I can't really draw a comparison to this but I sent my D50 in with flash issues about a year ago. They replaced a bunch of crap in the camera and it came back good as new (for free, and I was just out of warranty) in about a week.

I'd just give their warranty department a call, check on the status and ask someone there. I've never sent any lens/camera in for warranty work so I really am of no help otherwise.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'll probably just give them a call in a week or two and see if I can get an update.

And thanks for the welcome... even though I signed up a while ago. haha. I'm "nogger" in nasioc, BTW.

    You're quentin's brother right?
Welcome to the forums! I broke my Sigma 17-35mm in half and sent it in. I think it was there under 2 weeks, so I'd call them and follow up with them. I've never had anything take more than a couple of weeks including the few lenses I've had to send to canon. Just give them a friendly "hows my repair going" call and see what they say.

Indeed, I am Quentin's brother. I need to get him on the forum.
I may give them a call after my epidemiology/biostatistics final tomorrow and see how the repairs are coming along. I would like to have the lens back before the holidays but wouldn't be too upset if I don't. I can survive without. haha

I am considered trying to trade it for a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 once I get it back. I'd like something a little wider and something a little lighter.

So I just called them and they said it was shipped back on Wednesday so it is probably at home wait for me.
Though it may have been sent to my parents' house (can't remember which address I wrote on the warranty card. haha)

It was waiting for me at my apartment. yay
Everything seems to be working correctly but I didn't really have much time to play because I had a soccer game as soon as I got home from the library. Maybe next week I'll have time to mess around with it.

I am still considering getting rid of it for the Tamron 17-50. Anyone have any input on that? I would like more wide angle and also have the 70-200 f4L to cover the longer ranges.

If you're on a crop and can afford it, DO IT!!!
the gain in 17~24 is HUGE, where the loss in 50~70 isn't that bad at all. At least for me, but I'm a UWA whore.

I really would like the the wider lens. Maybe I could find someone to trade me. haha
I figure I could sell this lens and buy a Tamron used and not have to spend too much (50 to 75 bucks out of my pocket... seems like the price of the Sigma with filter on PotN is around 300 to 325 and the Tamron around 375)
