Default  so I picked up my zoom lens and....

it's a no name... 420mm to 800mm manual zoom lens. I have to pull the casing off the extend the zoon, not just twist.

I haven't taken any pics with it yet because I didn't have my tripod but I'll do so this weekend I'm sure.

anyone got any suggestions on a fairly INexpensive AUTO focusing high zoom lens that I could get?

I've had experience with the Canon 75-300, its cheap and you get what you pay for. Its slow (f/4 - f/5.6) but its not too bad in terms of IQ. But, "inexpensive" and "long focal range" won't ever be found in the same sentence.

I don't know what all the letters and numbers mean on the lens. i.e, f/4-f/5.6

    Aperture Tutorial
    Exposure in relation to Aperture

Some of this may be redundant since you are a videographer....but it will at least get you aquainted with the jargon.

It defines how wide the aperture will go, i.e. how much light can be let in. Lower numbers = better (and more expensive). Being able to open your aperture wider allows you to get higher shutter speeds and thus sharper images in lower light conditions.

That's not a very good explanation but its a good quick & dirty summary, if you post another thread asking the same question, I'm sure others can really give you a good run down.

Check out the Apeture Tutorial, which Markitos already linked above, because he is quicker and smarter than me.

*I know it was a joke, but let's try to refrain from using drug related pictures.
