    I am selling my Nikon 70-300G lens, someone whose son has a D40 is interested, will this lens work on the D40?

    I haven't tried that lens on my body, but if it is an AF-S lens, it should work fine. I think worst case it would fit on the body, but be usable only in MF.

    It doesn't look like it, unless your lens is the newest AF-S VR version.


    What a dumb move by Nikon. Let's make an affordable camera that can't use affordable lenses. Or maybe it was a smart move. I guess it depends on how you look at it.

    thanks, and i would vote that it was a dumb move. used to be any lens anytime, not anymore. i used to love those threads on DPR "I just bought a D200 and was wondering if my xxx lens will work?"
