i recently rented the tokina 10-17 FE...

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._AT_X_107.html

    my question is:

will the new sigma 10mm 2.8 be the same kind of FE as the tokina?

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...2_8_EX_DC.html

i have noticed that some are circular and others are diagonal. i don't know what the difference is between the two.

i am choosing the sigma, because i want the faster aperture and i hardly ever zoomed in the tokina. how do i know if the sigma will be any better than the tokina?

i rented the sigma 15mm 2.8 and it was a great lense. it just wasn't wide enough.

i wonder if the 4.5mm is any good?

circular means you'll have a circular image and black corners.
diagonal means the view (usually 180º) is corner to corner of the frame.

at least that's my take on it.
the sigma 10mm is "better" because it's f/2.8. Plus primes are better than zooms and as you pointed out you won't zoom a FE out much if at all. Just get the 10mm sigma somewhere you can return it in case the whole circular/diagonal part is wrong.
    I own this joint!

Since this seems to be the only thread on the 10-17 tokina..
How was it - sample images??
My g/f was in NYC and were thinking of going in halvieses on a FE, so she tested out the 2 sigmas, but I just found this zoom that would be good - we want to use it for weddings mostly, and having the zoom would allow us to quickly go "not FE" without having to change lenses..

only problem I see with weddings is it may be a little slow, Most of the FE shots would be reception and that usually goes hand in hand with low light. The 2.8 would be beneficial in those situations.

i really liked it, but i bought the sigma 10mm 2.8 instead.

as you can tell, i kept it at 10mm most of the time anyways. that and the 2.8 were the reasons i chose the sigma.
