    Default  Pentax lenses...for the K10d

Sorry for the total nOOb question, but I think I really would like a MF lense...especially if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm taking into account the advice to get a 50mm lens. So what do you think about this lens?

    M 50mm 1.7 Manual Focus K-Mount Lens 50 NR 32515

    Or this?
    SMC-M 50mm f/2 Normal Prime Lens

Which series of pentax lenses will or won't fit the K10d? I'm assuming that all the K-series fit...Wow, there's a lot of glass out there...I saw the other threads listing all the pentax lenses, so if anyone knows which series of lenses work with the K10d I'd really appreciate it.

Just remember that you can pick a 50mm f1.4 new for about $200. And thats an AF one. (you can MF an AF lens)

if you want to get technical.

ALL Pentax lens's fit the K10D
THIS allows you to use 42mm Screw mount lens's and THIS allows you to mount "645" medium format lens's to your 35mm Kmount body.
on top of the ungodly number of K mount lens's that are around, they all fit.

Thanks, I know that I can MF an AF lens, but if I can get a lens at half the price to play around with, then maybe it'll be worth not having AF.

Thanks a ton. I was under the assumption that this was the case, but I wanted to make sure. Anyone else shooting with old glass? 50mm?

i have a Kiron 70-210mm F4 Macro its old, heavy, but a fun lens to play with none the less. i also have a line on some other old school lens's [4 or 5 i think] and a K1000 Body for $30 i THINK that includes a 50mm F1.2

keep in mind that those screw mount adapters are kind of weird. From the factory, they click into the camera body and you need the little key they come with to remove them. If you ecpect to be switching back and forth between m and k lenses, this is a huge pain in the ass. What I did (as was recomended somwhere I read) was to get several of them (for each of my m lenses), remove the little locking tab, and then you can just mount the m lens as if it was a K. However, it won't lock into place nicely, but it does seem to cinch down pretty tight, so I haven't been worried about anything coming loose, so far.

It's a tiny bit kluge-y of a solution, but for the added lens options it gives you, it's not too bad.

The 50mm F/1.7 is a ridiculously sharp lens that is fantastic in low light situations. i have owned a couple of them and I highly recommend it. I believe it is sharper than the 2.0 as well.

So all the K mount lenses will fit the K10d without a screw, right? M-series lenses require the screw mount?

there's a few different names for the actual K-mount (KAF, PK, KF, K, etc) but they all work on all the applicable d-slr's (k100d, k110d, k100ds, k10d, ist-l, everything)

the screwmount, which is a universal mount named m42 or m48 is just that, a universal screwmount. if you see m42 or m48, regardless of what else it says it's a screwmount and will need an adapter.

there's also the tamron adapt-all which is just that...a universal mount made by tamron that takes an adapter but isn't popular, at all.

    m42 universal screwmount:

here's what the actual k-mount to m42 adapter looks like:

    actual k-mount:

here's the wiki for the k-mount with tons of technical info and specs:

i've got the 50mm f-1.4 MF K-mount, the 50mm f-1.8 M42 screw mount, and the 50mm f-2 k-mount. I'm not sure which is my favorite. I'm also not sure why I have so many 50mm. i really need to get 28mm lenses. with the 1.5x crop factor, 28mm brings you closer to 50mm.

I love the SMC FA 50mm f/1.4 i just purchased a few weeks ago. It's my first lens in most situations since it's razor sharp closed up and can be used in low light situations, portraiture, and produces awesome bokeh. Add the fact that it's $200, it's a must have for Pentax owners IMO.
