Default  Upgrading from the 50mm f1.8 to the 1.4...

Well my XTi is up for sale...
I wanted to sell it as a kit, but someone paypaled me $75 for the lens, so it's gone.
Guess I'll be coughing up the funds for the f1.4 now.

Can't wait to get it here and play with it. I supposed I should order it now so I can play with it this weekend.

Now if someone will just but the XTi and RRS bracket I can order my G9 and housing... Well not really since they're not out yet, but still...

I'll be posting some pics and impressions with/from/of the 1.4 when I get it.

Unless you get a bum copy, you're certain to like the improvements, especially the metal mount.

Nice going, selling the 1.8 for $75

yeah, the only bummer is that I didn't get to order the 1.4 until now, so I won't get it until Friday...
But I am looking forward to it.

OK, it finally got here yesterday. So far I like it a lot more than the 1.8. The 1.8 was perfect for work shots since everything was so controlled and I used MF a lot with my macro rings. Well using the 1.4 around the house last night it's AF is noticeably faster. It's also noticeably heavier too (it's twice at heavy at ~.6lb -vs- ~.3lb). I keep a 50mm prime around primarily for a super fast lens for shooting available light. Anyway, here are some sample images I shot around the house last night, they all the my usually PP sharpening on them, but honestly they are sharper at f1.4 than I thought they would be:

these are at f/1.4, f2.0 and f2.8, all focused on the FiOS TV button (cropped!):

So far I'm very impressed with the lens. I might be turning into a prime whore.

    more from this weekend:

can't believe the colors out of the camera:

I think I might be turning into a prime whore now though...

the top 2 are both at f/2.8 because 1/8000th is the fastest shutter speed on the 5D and I didn't feel like going down to 50ISO. But it still gives you enough background blur to work, and the DOF/sharpness is insane for what is in focus.
