The focal markings keep going, it looks like to 105. That lens is way to short to be the 24-70 anyway.

    Yep, Scott's got it covered.
Not a bad lens, but I hate the hood design with the external zoom. Also I love f/2.8 for less DOF when needed and or for faster shutter speeds, but I had to think about it for a week before I ordered... I liked the idea of the smaller lighter travel lens with more reach...
    I own this joint!

I do believe I said the same thing, just not as bluntly. I like for people to figure out things themselves rather than me just giving them the answers.

    ...wishful thinking for many of us - I'd buy a 24-70 f/2.8 IS L in a heartbeat.

FWIW I rented a 24-105 as a travel lens this summer - UGLY barrel distortion on the wide end.

    Would not buy.

Really? I was wondering how this lens performed. Seemed like a nice travel/all-rounder. Particularly on a FF body.

I find the 24-105 to be a better general purpose lens, and have been quite happy with its output on my 5D. I use it over the 24-70 when I know I won't need the extra stop, or the shallower DOF. Less weight, shorter length, IS, and more reach make it a superior walk around lens.

funny, I use my 17-40mm as my walk around, almost exclusively...

I got rid of my 17-40 because I wasn't all that impressed with it (maybe a bum copy), already had that range covered, and needed the money for something else... and yeah, we know you're a WA junkie
