Default  School Me on Radio poppers HSS

Can I do High Speed sync with a Radio poppers PX transmitter on my camera and PX receivers on my Nikon SB-24's?
I was reading on some other forums and on RP's site, but was getting confused.

Do you need ETTl to achieve HSS or can you do it in Manual?

PXs support HSS, but the PX is triggered by the on camera flash so not sure if it will work with the nikon flashes.

Yup and it would cost a bare minimum of $1200 to get setup to work one flash in HSS. Not happening anytime soon.

    STE2 = $250
    580EX II = $445
    RP-PX Transmitter = $250
    RP-PX Receiver = $250

I doubt you can use HSS in Manual. Speedlights do it by pulsing the strobe over a longer period of time so that there's a quasi-constant light source while the shutter curtains are moving across the plane (multiple lower-power pops = one really short higher-power pop in terms of light output). I see no way of telling the Speedlight to do that without E-TTL.

you need both the ST-E2 AND the PX parts?

and what do you want high speed for, runaway brides?

Also, won't a 580 do high speed on it's own? And won't a 580 and ST-E2 be able to do highspeed off camera on it's own?
    I own this joint!

my pixel knight triggers can do hss ettl2.

w/o ettl2 (ie, connected via pin/rail or sync cable) they'll do something called "hypersync," which supposedly will give you even illumination above 1/1000th or so.

i'll let you know when i get them in my sweaty hands...

I don't need it but I would love the ability to shoot shallow DOF portraits in mid day sun.

Also, because it would be fun.

Looks like the new pocket wizards do this without a hot shoe flash on board the camera.

Ken, I am interested to hear your experience with the Pixel knight system.

Interesting. I will need to see more people with 5Dc's post real work experiences before I buy, but I am excited at the possibility.

I hope the New Pixel Kings are solid performers, but otherwise this looks like the system I want.
