    Default  Goals for 2008

What are your Photography goals this year?

In no particular order, mine are:

making an archive of prints, ready to show/sell. This could be expensive, especially if I do gallery wraps

Using said prints for gallery shows(have friends with gallery)

Putting prints in a fancy restaurant called Nimbus, at the top of the tallest building in town(already talked to owners about this)

Getting published in Skagit land trust coffee table book, and possibly Whatcom county too if they make another one this year

    Shoot more weddings! $$$

    Enter more contests!

Get my website running, and business cards(really need to do this)

Make a calendar for next year.

Make a coffee table book for next year?

Look into shooting sporting events in a way that would be profitable( race days, major soccer games, etc)

---I'll probably add more to this

Pretty cool list. That's pretty much mine, with emphasis on weddings and e-sessions, and the following added:

    - get better at studio photography
    --- finish my studio
    --- rent out my studio
------ learn more from and collaborate with the people that rent out my studio
    - network with other local photographers
--- maybe start a local photog forum
    - shoot more, with a greater variety of subject matter
    - master my III, maybe get the s
    - learn and put into practice marketing

    ...more to be added

I don't really have any specific goals because I make everything up day to day.

But if I was forced to think about it I'd like to get published again this year, I don't really have anything looming on the horizon in that aspect. I'd also like to score a media pass for the Moto GP at Indy in the summer, I need to get crackin on that. But before then I'll likely need a 40d and a capable lens in the 3-400 range.

Aside from all that, I'd like to get hired more for my photography. I've had a few paid gigs to date and I've got my first paid wedding coming up in April, but I think I need more challenges than that.

My ultimate goal is to help grow NSOP into the internet force that it deserves to be.

Hmmm... roughly, this would be my list:
    • MAIN GOAL: Have net income from nature photography in 2008. I'm going to be documenting this closely. Buying/spending money on gear would be a negative towards this. I want to come out in the green overall.
    • Win more contests and get published more times than I did in 2007
    • Win the Landscape category of the biggest statewide photo competition again (NC Wildlife)
    • Get my "setup" nailed down so I can stop spending money on new gear. (This one is very close)
    • Finish my website
    • Get a cover shot
    • Make 2-3 new postcards
    • Get my prints for sale in 3 stores (1 is locked down as is, should be for sale Tuesday)
    • Explore. Explore. Explore.
    • Spend more time in the field learning and improving my work

    Great thread, Todd.

    mine for NSOP:
    • make NSOP not cost me anything
    • get us over 1000 members
    • get some sponsors for contests here (flickr, pbase, smugmug etc)
    • get more tutorials up/finished
    • get more wiki entries going so it's a good resource for n00bs
    • continue to grow, but remain photo oriented, fun, and a nice size.
    mine:
    • sell some prints
    • get into some galleries in town
    • somehow find time & money for some traveling this year (will be very hard with the baby coming)
    • I'd also love to nail down my equipment for the next little while. I'm getting much closer though.
    • get some sort of paid gigs I like
    • enter some contests
    • make a better calendar for next year, get it printed early enough to sell it...
    • improve my website
    • actually complete a PAD (the baby will help here)
    • keep in the black this year with equipment purchases -vs- income from them... The payment from work is going to help HUGE here, as is being poor due to baby...
    I think that's about it.
    I own this joint!

Thanks, Hopefully we can all keep an eye on our lists and motivate ourselves to make these things happen!

--add to my list: Sell Prints to local Office type businesses. I think this would be especially good for newly opened places. I'm sure we've all been in some sort of waiting room type environment with a hideous piece of crap on the wall. Can't I offer something better?

I'm doing good on that so far...

    I had 8 in 2007.

I'm currently at 3 in the books and 1 coming up in 2008. Only need 5 more in 9 months! I'd like to see 12-15 for this year though.

I've been working on 3 of mine for the site... #1 being the best one to accomplish, and the first.

Plus I got one of my shots on the news last week which was nice.

    · Do some shooting with my son
    · Long exposure shooting
    · Finish up smugmug site
    · Get a lighting setup with a background or two

Wedding was a complete success and I got hired to shoot SWAG pants and the ACL Fest. Looking good!

So far I've done all these (or am on schedule to complete, ie the PAD):

are a little harder, especially now with Elias and me knowing what he's done to my free time... 1k members will happen. Not sure if it'll be this year, but it will happen which is great. As we grow, sponsors for contests will happen, but I/we need to get more/better contests going IMHO. That'll come with more members I think, but those that are here need to participate more (myself included). The wiki is a ghost town though.

My personal goals are doing OK. The galleries won't happen this year as I'm too busy with Elias and real work to shoot more gallery worthy stuff IMHO and I don't want to approach them if I can't supply new shots. Time to travel is nil since my only vacation was spent at home with Elias (which was awesome). Paid gigs would be awesome. I have an idea here but need to organize it a bit better and get some money before I start (shooting youth sailing events and printing/selling on site). I haven't entered a single contest yet. I'll do a calendar for next year for sure, but I'm not sure if I'll have enough (new) good landscapes to make it as good as last years.

I'm happy with what I've gotten done. I knew I wouldn't accomplish everything, so just getting some (close to half) done already is pretty good for me.

sell more images (aka make more $$)
    print more work
get over my fear and show some work in a gallery or fair
stop getting screwed over on image credit
    shoot more people, less objects
    learn x elevntybillion
    clean my sensor
    attempt landscapes with some success
When in doubt, just shoot the hell out of it
