I just spoke with an editor of the local paper back home and apparently NC Wildlife sent out a press release to them about the results of the recent contest (see thread here). So, they (local paper) emailed me to ask if they can turn it into a little feature for the community life section and wanted to use my winning entry.

They are going to be running my "Evolution River" shot in color along with a bit about the results and what I do with my camera. I'm hoping I'll be able to get my website in there but she was unsure how much will/can be included.

Anyways, should be a nice little bit of publicity...

    UPDATE:

Sounds pretty good to me... I couldn't expect too much, I'm just glad they got my website in there.

That should be some great exposure, congrats!

If not your website, make absolutely sure they include some way for the readers to get in touch with you. It should be a deal breaker if they can't/won't.

    Nice work.
And I'd simply tell them you get a credit with you site in exchange for the photos... They'll gladly do that. The ProJo does it all the time for artists here in the sunday paper. An entire article per person, with where you can buy their stuff (galleries) and their site.... I don't see why they wouldn't down there.

Thanks, guys. I won't be happy unless it generate some kind of revenue though. That's my goal/hope with it. I need to get my name out there as much as possible.

Thanks, man, don't worry about the contest, just keep improving and submit something better next year. It'll pan out. Just don't mess with the landscape category...

I would like to purchase 4 12x18 prints of Evolution River, Mountain Cascade, Mountain Serenity, and Winter Glow II. Please let me know what the total will be and I'll get payment to you. Thanks! xxxxxx
So, yeah, if it all works out, that might be my biggest order ever (kinda weak, huh? )... here's to hoping she doesn't think my pricing is nuts...

I may not be, but I'm charging enough for me so I'm okay with it. In case you're curious I quoted her $90/each. Normally, I do 95/each, but I thought I'd cut a bit of a break if she's buying more than one.

Yeah, that's the best part. Random reader, never met her, just saw it in the paper, went to my site, and sent me an email. Exactly what I was hoping for. Now I just hope there's more!

(Also, it was nice to see one of my new ones already get ordered, albeit tentatively)
