Default  shooting for my company's website...

it's well-known around the office i'm into photography and there's been talks about appointing me the sole photographer for the company. i think RIGHT now it'd be more than i can handle but if they give me guidelines, dates and some structure i'm sure i can get my stuff together.

we are about 6 months out from consolidating 3 separate websites down to one and word on the street is people are pushing me to step up and ask or the duty of shooting our restaurants, kitchens, front entrances, employees, etc for the website.

how should i approach this? i know WHO i need to talk to but what should i say? i'm already thinking a formal letter is in order as well as some printed samples ( build a portfolio? ) and maybe a short "hi mr. ceo, here's why you should choose me to do this" speech.

i'm scared, excited, nervous and totally stoked even though this is very preliminary. i know we aren't looking into cheaping out on a photog but 'hiring' within for a 2-3 month (?) project is a bonus for the guys upstairs.

You can do this, no doubt. Get your approach to the situation all laid out and show them some of your best shots. You have many! Shots of the restaurants, people, and food will be a piece of cake for you!

yeah, the compensation part of it is something i'm worried about. being an employee already will make it tricky for sure.

The key to proper compensation is to present yourself in the manner that you expect to be compensated for. If you want professional compensation then I suggest you do like you suggested and put together a professional portfolio to accompany a well thought out proposal to the CEO. They have to realize quickly, upon first sight of your portfolio, your value to the company as a photographer. As you sit down and put it all together, don't think about how much you want to do this, think about why the company needs you to do it. Obviously, you're the natural choice- your experience in restaurants and photography, talent with food and cameras - you just have to make them realize it with numbers and example photos.

    word, thanks ted.

between writing a complaint letter to my landlord about the crackhead neighbors and tracking down my w2 from a deadbeat restaurant owner i'm going to get my **** together.
