Default  Teaching a class this Sat.

My old high school photo teacher want's me to help teach a couple of his classes. These are at his home studio, since he no longer teaches at school. He shoots primarily studio stuff , and is very profitable at it.

After seeing my recent stuff he decided to add me in as part of a class or 2, since he does less landscape/nature stuff. I'm going to teach the students how to "look for the light" in their photos, and how to take better landscapes in general.

    I'm excited though

I will be referring them to NSOF.

Ya I had to admit a couple minutes in that I'm not much of a speaker. I had an outline in front of me, and I was trying to go over it and my mind went to mush.

    Got over that.

Started showing my shots to demonstrate various things, and that went really well.

My basic idea was "snapshot to covershot" the class being about Natural light

Basically tried to get the class to shoot in better light, and to look for good lighting.

I first had to explain to do stuff you can control such as usings tripods, remote shutter release, mirror lockup, shoot low ISO, shoot RAW, correct exposure, etc.

showed why some of my shots sucked, and why some worked, Good light/ bad location, or vice versa.

explained GND filters and why they are important, and then had to admit I didn't have any yet

anyways, I think they all got useful info out of it, and were impressed by my work as well.

I have never used mirror lock up. I understand the principle, but I don't see the advantage.

    Maybe you could sway me?

Mirror lock up is just the icing on the cake for trying to take movement free shots. Good tripod most important, remote shutter release, 2nd, and MLU 3rd

Well with shots like you take, that may get blown up big and put on peoples walls, you'd want to minimize camera shake as much as possible right?

I didn't know this, but when using the timer function, the K10d locks the mirror up automatically.

if I'm shooting long exposure, i will always use the timer for the mirror lockup function. i found that out one night shooting w/out a tripod with the camera set on the roof of the car.
