I have some how managed to sell quite a few prints already this year and realized I need to setup some sort of business. I want to be able to write off all of my expenses like mileage, promotional stuff, framing supplies, purchased equipment, etc...
What is the easiest way to get this done?

PM bacdoc... he's not around here much, but he did this a few years ago so he could write everything off. I think you have 3 years in the red before uncle sam gets pissed even which is nice.
I own this joint!
gear list.
yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, today is a gift, that's why it's called the present.

Easiest? Go to your town/city hall and fill out a form for a Sole Proprietorship. You may have to fill out a second DBA (Doing Business As) form for "prolific photography."
Theoretically you should start doing taxes quarterly, but I know some folks that don't bother ... but you really SHOULD and it's not like it's hard or anything.

...just re-reading over a few of these old threads.
At today's fuel prices, it would probably save tons of cash if you could write that off your taxes.

Ha, I just looked into getting a state business ID.
I am setting goals now and this is one of them.
