This is a tenative meet. Obviously you have to have the right sky conditions for it to work out. So here is what I propose. A Friday or Saturday night, at Green Falls Pond in Voluntown, CT. I want to try shooting these again since my first didn't work out as well as I wanted. The deal is I will check the weather a few days out to look for a clear night, with little moonlight, and then set the meet day. We can meet at my place and drive from there. It is about a 10 minute drive. I will let everyone know that if you want northern sky, you will have to walk about 20 minutes through the woods (it is all on a nice wide trail) to get to it. Southern sky we can drive to and pretty much walk out of the car 50 feet to the shore. Last night it seemed like the light or lack thereof in the southern sky is better, probably due to the ocean to the south. Shots to the west aren't terrible light wise either. For this meet, bring a tripod, a portable lighting source (flash, flashlight, PDA, Ipod), dress warm, depending on weather, bring a camera with bulb mode, or a camera with the capablity to have the shutter held open, remote, cable release, or laptop with tether to fire the camera. Bring something to pass the time, or eat or whatever. When we figure out the date, and amount of participation, I will give directions to the house, and time to show up.

if my cable release gets here in time for this weekend, i can probably make it. though i think the weather may be crappy this weekend, but having clouds blowing through could be cool, i think.

Doesn't have to be this weekend. I would prefer a night with little moon, a late waining moon, or new moon. Also, a clear night, but a little clouds might be cool also.

    Keeping my eyes on NOAA.

Eastern CT. Just about 10 miles from Norwich. May not happen this weekend, but looking for good skies, and little moon interference. I will try to give a couple days notice.

Yeah, I would loan you one, but the next time I do this, I am going to use the DSLR, and the Film SLR, so I will need both my tripods.

Anyone down for this tonight? I am kicking around going out and doing this. This doesn't have to be the first and only night assosciated with this thread. If you can't make it tonight, I will post again the next time I go.
Supposed to be partly cloudy, lately when that is forecast, it turns out pretty clear.

Keep your eye on the Moon Calendar for a new moon for the darkest skies. Moon light can add nice fill light for the foreground, but your exposure has to be shorter or you Aperture needs to be smaller to use longer exposures.

Thanks, I have been using Naval Observatory for all that, but I will bookmark and try it out.

If your down, I am thinking about going out after about 10, based on the skies.

Friggin clouds. Looks about 50/50 right now. Can you be flexible up to like 9 or 10pm? I'll decide about 9-9:30. Clouds rolled north after sunset. Maybe they'll roll out by then.

Can hardly see the moon here, just a light source through the clouds. Hopefully it clears a little around 9 or 10

Looking at this, it looks like it will probably be clear around 11-12 or so, if your still up for it.
