Default  Weekapaug Beach 7 Mar 09 - Saturday

Planning on a sunrise shoot at Weekapaug Beach, in Charlestown, RI, Saturday morning at Sunrise.

Civil Twilight begins at 5:44 am, Sunrise at 6:11 am.

Map to follow this afternoon. (I'm at work right now, and can't access)

You can mapblast Surfside Ave, and there will be a small beach parking lot adjacent to it. This is the meet spot. Also, you come down route 1 towards westerly, or out of westerly going towards Newport, and turn onto West Beach Ave, then turn left onto Sea Breeze Ave. (its right across from Sunset Dr.) Then turn right onto Ninigret Ave, then left onto Oceanview Ave. Oceanview will bend around to the right, and where it meets Surfside Ave, there is a parking lot entrance on the left. (it has a gate, but it is open.) Go in park, the beach is about 50 ft away. I should be there by then anyway. I will still post up a map later.

Supposed to be partly cloudy tonight, so it should be great shooting tomorrow.

Would you be opposed to going to Black Point instead? [http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=4...4404&t=h&z=18]

I want to try out my 10-20 on some rocks and have been meaning to get out there for the sunrise.

I knew you wouldn't be disappointed, and you won't be.

This is one of the best places I know, it has almost every great landscape feature you could want, beach, rocks, ocean, the little wooden fences, and a great easterly view to catch sunrise.

the wife doesn't like the idea of an alarm going off that early, but we'll see if I can win that battle... I'm also trying to figure out where I would turn off Rt1 south? I used to live on green hill, so I know this neck of the woods, I just rarely went further south than green hill.

You turn off rt.1 at West Beach Rd. Basically it is a few miles north of Westerly. There is a stoplight at the intersection. She'll sleep through the alarm, my wife always does.

    -Andy

Get on mapblast, and follow rt 1 south from up by you, till you see west beach road. It is south of Charlestown proper on RT.1

yeah, it's just the turn of Rt1 I'm wondering about because that's the bull**** turn around section.... Or is it part that section? But I'll watch for west beach road and if there's a light it'll be easy.

No, its not on that part of the turn around crap. I know I hate those too. I have almost been hit numerous times by morons that think they need the whole road when they are merging from one of those things. Get a turn radius!!

    Ben,

Go to mapblast, and put this into the driving directions thing on the left side of the screen

Start A: Copy the stuff below start and end
near 13 Karison St, Wakefield, Rhode Island 02879, United States

    End B:
182 Surfside Ave, Charlestown, RI 02813-1144

The start should be right where that mobil station is where 138 coming from URI meets rt.1

Nevermind the stuff on the directions that say private road. I have never been harrassed down there. They aren't really private either.

I've almost rear ended quite a few people who think yield means stop, check, don't move, check again, then go very slowly.

and why wouldn't I just put in my home address to start?

Damn, I missed it. I had to work late though. Hope you guys had a good time, I saw MoLs' and Ben's photos and they look great. I think I'm going to order a graduated ND filter tonight, the effect is pretty amazing.

Also, judging by the map I'm thinking of a different place. I always thought Weekapaug was at the eastern end of Misquamicut, across the causeway from 'The Dunes' beach past those fishing areas.

If anyone is interested there will be a group kiteboarding at Watch Hill tomorrow down at Napatree Point. If I don't have to close the restaurant I'll probably catch sunrise there and then head to Newport for the day.

I'll get my stuff up tomorrow, I took a day off from workflow. I processed one shot from the other day's sunset, and got disenchanted.

You guys ever have one of those days where everything you shoot is just complete and utter crap? Well it happened to me yesterday morning. I wasn't happy with anything. Sorry I got nothing to show. Guess we'll have to do it again sometime.
