There are 3 of us in and around the Triangle in NC--me in Durham, Scott (Stime187) in Raleigh, and Over Actor in Fayettville...
Those are the ones I know of, anyway.

I'm in Charleston, so not too far down the road from ya'll.
I grew up in Raleigh was born in Brevard, NC
and we visit Charleston every now and then...hopefully someday I can get a chance to come shoot pics with fellow NSOPer's

I want to move to RTP area, does that count?
Yeah, I'm here... hate Raleigh, but I'll be there for a couple more years.
I'd be all over a meet up.
- Scott
Just nothing for me there. I'm not a city person, not a go to a bar/club on a saturday night person, just not a person that would enjoy a place like Raleigh.
I need mountains, wilderness, and places to explore... Raleigh hasn't given me that. Not a bad place, just not for me.

(I accidentally edited your post with my reply, thats why it says "Last edited by...", sorry about that.)

...but Raleigh is pretty darn close to the Smoky Mountains, Deal's Gap, the Cherahola Skyway, etc. Although not your backyard, it's pretty close. I have to drive several hours to get there, and it's still worth it.
Mike, that IS my backyard. GSMNP = 20 minutes. Blue Ridge Parkway = 15 minutes. Deal's Gap/Cherahola = a little over an hour. I'll gladly admit to being spoiled with where I grew up.I used to go the gap every weekend when I had my various motorcycles.
And they are all 5+ hours from Raleigh and 300+ miles.

Aw crap, nevermind, i just looked at the map. For some reason I was thinking you were a whole lot closer to Charlotte... duh... and I was only tired, and not drunk when I posted that...

My friend Reed just signed up, he'll be another SEer for a meet-up.

Can I join in on the southeast games? Calling in from Savannah. Wouldn't mind meeting up and putting a face to some of these names...
cool yeah Savannah is what about 45 min south of augusta?
maybe have to head down your way for St. Paddy's day lol you guys go all out.
-Tim B
not sure how far augusta is but, yeah, st paddy's is one hell of a party!

Dredging this thread back up... another SE person here. I'm in the general Charlotte area, just across the Catawba River in Gaston County.
What's the chances of getting a spring meet going somewhere in the mountains?
Aaaaand I missed this thread. Yeah, I'm in Raleigh/Burlington/Hillsborough NC, depending on when it is. I'm with Scott on the disliking Raleigh issue. Not enough open space.

i also agree we need to get a meet together although I think i'll be driving the farthest to meet. as long as it's on a weekend i'm game!
I am in Charlotte......For now.
- Scott
I'd probably be game for that, long as I don't miss any tests or anything.
Reed
Yeah, we wouldn't mess up anyone's schedule. I'm thinking it might have to be next fall anyhow... maybe try to hit it during fall color next year or around that time.

Nice we should also consider heading to the Outerbanks sometime. Though, I have to admit, I find beach photography to be ultra-difficult on the east coast.
- Scott
No foreground interest to use. Just plain sand is hard to use to make a good landscape composition. It's definitely a challenge, especially when compared to the rocky beaches of the Pacific where you're overwhelmed with elements to compose with.
But yeah, flat isn't the problem, just the issue of producing something that stands out from the norm. Don't get me wrong though, I still want to go shoot there and will this spring. I don't mind challenges.
- Scott
Scott, there are always plenty of fences to shoot.

I own this joint!

yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, today is a gift, that's why it's called the present.

Sometimes you can find some driftwood for a subject. But yeah, there should definitely be a meet sometime. I met with a couple guys from POTN back in January and that was decent. We lacked some subject matter to shoot, though.
Reed

From my trip to the Outer Banks, I remember there being 3 photo-worthy subjects....
Sunrise over the Atlantic
Sunset over the Pamlico/Albemarle Sound
Lighthouses
If you're good you might even be able to combine a lighthouse with a sunrise or a sunset! But other than that, I remember it being a very flat boring place.
- Scott
Yeah, it's not so much boring to me, as just extremely difficult to pull off the kinds of shots I shoot for. But then again, when I do get a special shot of North Carolina coast, it will be that much more special than it normally would be.
And, I certainly have a couple ideas in my head....![]()

I'm in Jacksonville, FL. Its about two hours south of Savannah. My wife and I try to get up there as often as possible. Is anyone further south than Jax?
^ Maybe Rock will see your message, I know he's in Charlotte.
- Scott
What part of Charlotte you gonna be in? While I usually prefer to stay over on my side of the Catawba River, I'll be up in the University area Monday and Tuesday for trainingMaybe we can get Rock and have a mini-meet.
Sorry guys, I just saw this. Couldn't do it right now anyway but have fun in the city while you are here. If you are staying in uptown, there is some cool stuff to shoot and alot of stuff in walking distance.....
D'oh, didn't see your post. Just sent both of you a PM.
You got some nice shots there......

New rule.... I am not allowed to plan things... ever.... ever ever EVAR!
I picked up SlvrScooby tonight and we were going to head to Jillian's to eat and play some games. As we were walking through the parking lot, I was telling him that I hadn't been to Jillian's in a while, and the last time I was there was for a friend's "bachelor" party (couldn't have a real one because his wife would kill us all)... and they had the place rented out for Raymond Felton's birthday party. So we walk in the door, and the place is absolutely PACKED. There's a little table up front with about 4 people wearing "Obama '08" shirts.
So, this is my luck. Every time I plan something, nothing goes right. I am officially no longer allowed to plan meets or other events. At least this time we were able to walk around the corner to Tavern on the Tracks and get decent food and beer from a bad waitress![]()

That sucks......
Any ideas yet on when we might do a NC/SC area meet?
Next fall would be the only time I could make it. I'll be across the country in a few weeks til September.
