I got confirmation that I am ok to bring light stands so I should have enough gear for 1 total setup.

I'm in the same boat as Ben, I'm coming.. as long as there are spots on the plane.. I don't think any of us are going to pay a premium to fly out/back.

^ get a sigmalux, I could tell even the mighty matt was impressed when he played with mine.

And yeah, I'm not sure what I want to bring light wise as I'm traveling with all carry ons? I don't think my stands fit in my bag? But I'll bring my light(s) for sure and batteries and my triggers. I might bring that new softbox and my umbrella if they fit in the bag.

I'm bringing one backpack with all my clothes (which won't be much) and my lights/modifiers, then my UD30 and that's it.

I am looking into a local rental place this afternoon and may be renting some lights and accessories to use. all depends on what they have and how much it costs.

luckily it is very close to where i work and has reasonable prices.

Yea, just really want to get a feel for the FL on FF, see how I like it. I've got MA so an off copy could be fixed "fingers crossed" in camera.

Ben, don't worry about bringing umbrellas. i have my hands on a number of them. bring your softbox when it comes in and your lights/triggers. the umbrella is more likely to be a pain to pack than anything else. If stands fit bring one instead of the umbrella.

yeah, I'm looking to get another actually. I had one on canon and LOVED it (needed MA but oh well, the 5Dii had it). Got another when I switched to Nikon but bought it used and it couldn't be fixed with MA (needed + at <10' and nothing at over 10'). So I sold it for what I paid for it and got the nikkor because I needed a lens that week and didn't want to risk it. But now I'm wanting the sigma back for it's bokeh and AF speed... I'd either buy new or only used if it's in person so you can try it out. Then again, I've only heard of my one lens where MA couldn't fix an issue.

Their take pretty much scared me off til I found other user's experience. I dunno if I should take their word on it, I'm sure they see a lot more in once place than any one user.

I have three umbrellas right now. I guess a few more wouldnt hurt. Softboxes are my preference but maybe not everyones.

If someone is bringing one longer item with them i'd rather it be a stand than an umbrella.

Bring your softbox with you for sure, if the umbrellas are easy to add it in bring them too. too much gear is better than not enough.

does anyone have one larger bag? I do but it's a duffel (no protection). Maybe we could all toss our lightstands in one bag? But then insurance would have to cover a loss?

interesting, I've had one that needed MA and then was perfect, the second has what they're describing for AF issues. The more I think about it the more I want to find one in person in a store. I'll pay sales tax just to be sure...

I have a bag that I've modified to add some protection. Same diamond plate padding I used for my Euro School bag. It's big, like really big, would need to be checked (I THINK). and would be pretty empty if we put just light stands in it.. maybe we could put lightstands and clothing backpacks/etc in it?

I'll take some shots of the bags I have tonight with some lightstands in them for comparison. My issue isn't carrying the gear in bags, I have stuff to carry everything.. it's knowing if it'll need to get checked or if it'll be good to carry on.

You guys shouldn't have to worry about bringing light stands. Can we start a list of who has what that is driving or local so the NE'ers can travel as light as possible?

If I don't need to bring lightstands or my Softbox/AB I can bring all my gear in a single backpack including 3 hot shoe flashes.

I should have 2 x flashes and my wireless setup... And 16x charged eneloops (but I'm not bringing my charger). I need to check my batteries in the wireless setup though as I think one receiver is dead.

Anyway, I JUST called the ski place and made it official that I'm NOT skiing this weekend. So ticket BETTER work out. There's only three ski trips for the rest of the year so hopefully I get at least one more.

Yea.. I knew you'd say that.. I think the biggest issue at the moment is lightstands.. so texans figure that shiz out so we don't need to bring any.. I'm sure as hell not bringing a boom, so yea.

I'll be bringing my SB-800 and two SB-600s (I gotta remember to charge all my batteries), and I guess I might be able to bring my nano stands and umbrellas, but I'd rather not put those flashes to use in a studio. I'll also be bringing my AlienBees Ringflash w/ the moon unit. I'd like to leave the rest of my lighting gear (Photogenic PL1250s and two softboxes) at home since they weigh a ton and I don't have stands for them anyway (or any way to transport them safely). And I'm sure as hell not bringing my 20lb Vagabond.

*****.. pfft I'm not either, the way I see it we can walk our asses to a hardware store and get an extension if we REALLY need it outdoors. lol

Why don't you want to use the hot shoes in the studio?

We have a couple of extension cords, I have a couple of light stands and a small boom if needed.
