Default  Any interest in a 'somewhere out west' ski/snowboard thing?

I'm hoping to get my wife out west at some point this winter to ride, and was just thinking it may be fun to do a group thing with some of you people.

If I was planning the trip I'd probably do the Summit County, Colorado thing, but thats because I know the area pretty well and know there is somewhat intermetiate terrain that the wifey can handle. I'm open to other locations.

Ideally I'm looking for a 3-4day weekend trip or like Sat-Tues or Wed or something like that.

personally summit county is the last place I'd go out west. It's not horrible, it's better than WI and even here, but I'd goto SLC first. Cheaper flights, better snow, better mountains and it's a better city than Denver. I'd also go to the NW or MT first too though, but again, maybe that's me.

Oh, and I'm going to be wicked pissed if NSOP gets a ski trip together w/o me (I won't be able to do something like this for another year or so I'd guess unless it's in NE).

Oh, and I can probably do a NSOP cheap tickets deal in the winters if we have enough interested people. I did it for NASIOC/NESIC 2 winters ago, $25 tickets.

just for reference, with my winter job, if we were to get 25 people together, I can get us group rates.

Like I said, I'm fine with other places, I just know colorado the best.

I've got relatives in SLC too so that'd be fun to visit them possibly.

I worked at Winter Park for almost all of my college breaks, and got free passes to most of the resorts there so I've been to almost all of them.

Other than WP I've spent the most time at Copper and Steamboat. I prefer steamboat to copper or WP but its a bit harder to get to.

One place I never went was Jackson Hole or the area, I always wanted to go there.

    (and MT and SLC)

I wasn't impressed too much with cali, although Squaw had some fun stuff.

    without all of the asterisks?

My concern with JH or someplace like it is where will Kris ride, and will I be suicidal by the end of the weekend if I have to go on easier stuff all day? Kris is definitely the type that will say "go ride other stuff, I'll stay here" but that usually means "I don't want to be alone all afternoon"

JH isn't too kind to begintermediates... The right side of the mountain is tame, but that's all relative. IE if she's only ridden in WI, the right side would be very hard for her the first day and maybe the entire trip... But you'd certainly be beat by midday the first few days so you could ride with her then.

But yeah, JH has a rep as being a "guys" mountain, not a "wife and kids" mountain... My sister and Nikki have both skied there and would kill me for saying that, but you catch my drift. A GREAT place she'll like though, right over the pass, is targhee. My Dad calls it the geezer pleaser mountain because he's old enough now he like groomers or pow. Targhee grooms more (but not everything) so has some wicked groomers. It's an hour from Jackson. You could go there the first 2 days (weekend days) then goto Jackson the next couple once you're into the swing of things.

i'm still throwing SLC out there, plus lodging is cheaper, especially if you stay in heber city or around there...the 30 minute drive is worth saving $100+ a night

yeah, I wasn't suggesting JH for a trip like this anyway.

as for CO, my Aunt lives in Telluride. I used to go there every year for spring break. We'd fly to Denver and drive up skiing at a few random spots along the way. I've been to WP, Steamboat, and a few others. Telluride is rad when they have snow, but not ideal for a trip like this. It's very hard to get to (expensive) and lodging is limited (expensive). So add both those up and unless you have a place to stay free, it's not really worth it IMHO.

I'll be there if it's in Utah. I'd recommend the Canyons, or Snow Basin.
