Whats the plan?

Well there are no set plans, There are tons of different places in the area to shoot. We can do a loop around Ocean Drive, the mansions, then downtown. or we can hang in one location. Goal is to get together and take some photos. Questions? Ask! This is as much of a learning experience for people as it is a fun event. A camera is a camera, SLR, PnS, camera phone! Come along with the group.

Im not sure on our plans, Dont know if we are heading out on Friday or Sat yet. I think we were going to do the Mansions on Sat. Sun, Id like to get some more shots around Newport perhaps do a tiny bit of xmas shopping. The BAP is a stop im 100% intending on making so Lunch on Sunday would seem like a good option if that works for those interested?

That sounds like it would work for everyone. Kiki needs to chime in on when she wants to come, and I'd bet at the very least I can get Nikki to go to BAP for lunch/brunch. Also if she yanks my leash up for Sunday I'll have to slip you guys my address...

Saturday or Sunday would be fine with us, but not both days since we're not making it an overnight thing... Whatever day ya'll (yes Matt, YA'LL) plan on checking out the mansions is probably the day we'll tag along.

it would be fun to go down and meet you guys, shoot some stuff... but i cant justify a tank of gas with my current financial situation.

I'll actually be driving through there Saturday on the way to "work" and back...
(escorting a bus trip to go skiing... so yeah... "work"...)

I don't know for sure yet, but we may or may not have 1 extra person with us. It's still up in the air, but I'll let ya'll know when I find out for sure.

So we are going to head down to Newport Sat. morning then up to Boston that evening and spend Sunday morning with Leahs fam before heading back to NY. I still want to do lunch at the BAP on sat so if for some reason you dont make it skiing Ben, give me a ring.

So my goal for this weekend is to really get some good shots that reflect Winter in Newport. May not be snow but similar moods. I want to work on more photos "wall worthy" inspired by Scott, Ben, and Kevins recent posts...

I just want to learn to use my camera. Maybe I'll come home with a couple decent shots while I'm at it.

Ok, So I need to figure out if we are going to go to Boston on Friday. It may be easier to get down there earlier if we go then, but still needs to be worked out. Id like to get into Newport before 11am either way to gauge the weather/ light and semi figure out what/ where to go. The only spot I really WANT to go is the BAP for lunch. Otherwise feel free to push pull drag me in any direction you people would like. I dont mind sharing some of my gear if you'd like to try certain things.

Someone said on the news this morning that the snow might be moving in a touch earlier and start sometime Saturday evening rather than early Sunday morning. I just hope they're wrong and we'll get to have a full day of sights and a good evening viewing of the Christmas lights.

And I've heard ya'll talk about the BAP so much for lunch, I want to go too!

I don't know how long it takes to get to Newport from here, I can't imagine it being more than a couple hours (takes about an hour and a half to Providence from our house). But I'm sure we can make it there by 11 or whatever. I just don't know where the heck I should park or meet up with ya'll.

Kiki, should be about 2 hrs for you, If you like we can meet on the way down. Ill let you know if we will be in Boston or not Friday night.

FYI they try to get you to pay to park in NPT... Right now the meter should be off... But make sure you read the posted signs carefully. There are tons of places to meet. Just pick something you want to shoot, and meet near it. If you're looking for parking near BAP, try here first. You go to Washington square (where Amistad's court scenes were filmed), go up the hill away from thames on torrow and hang a right onto the tiny street after the first theater. It's a public parking lot with metered parking, but it should be free now, and not too many people know about it. You actually walk down the brick alley to get to the pub (the way we walked to our car Matt).

And don't get discouraged about the snow... You'll get some cool christmasy shots with it. I just hope it's not rain.

Saturday is supposed to be fine, but very cold. Sunday is a different story, and I know that's what makes it tough for you guys since you're supposed to be driving back home on Sunday. So far all the news channels here agree that we're in for a BIG nor'easter Saturday night and into Sunday, but nobody agrees on whether it's all snow, snow and mix, or mix and rain.

Unless things change now, I dont think we are going to make it out. Its supposed to snow here tomorrow through Fri, then snow in Boston, then the Nor Easter on Sun. So unless the weather changes I think we will have to reschedule...

It should be done Friday morning like by 1-2AM. Then another storm moves in again Sat night. The roads will be fine Friday and Sat.

The current one is going to be a quick mover. So there's going to be about 5-8 inches of snow down there Thursday night. I might just go do my own anyways on Sat. Should still be a covering of snow.

I would love to still go down there on Saturday, but I totally don't know my way around as I've never been there before. That and we'll probably have to help get my in-laws properties ready for the storm on Sunday.

It's not the weather on Saturday that's an issue. It's the weather on Sunday when Subimatt and DotGrl have to drive back home.

I dont mind driving in snow at all, just it takes alot longer to get where I need to go. its roughly 3.5-4hrs as is.. would rather not spend half the weekend driving if it can be avoided thats all. Im still open to the idea, just will have to see how it pans out. Giving everyone the heads up.

Id really love to be down there, especially if there is snow on the ground... Just Sunday comming back, ive been stuck on the Pike before and it was not fun.

if it doesnt work out this weekend, Ill most likely head down the following weekend.
