Car Mount setup, Suggestions needed.

I am looking for car mount for taking HD video at the Texas Mile.

We are going to the Texas Mile and I want a in car mount for my 5DMk2 to take video of the action from the rear window forward watching inside the car shifting and front windshield. Two of the cars are 2 seaters with a rear window right behind the seats Ford GT and Lambo Gallardo, then I want to also get some Subbies in the action as well.

Do you think this would be a good setup to accomplish this task? Cost would be a factor as well.

does it need to be HD?

because 2 gopros would be ~$400 and work better in terms of mounting.

Let me know how he like its. AutoX is more abusive compared to the straight line action I am wanting to do.

a guy i know made something similar to that. worked awesome, and was much cheaper.

After checking the seats in both cars. This option you gave me will not work

Looks like it is going to be the suction cup route.

not sure on the 2 nice cars as they're $$$ so you have to be super careful... But in the subies, a 5 point harness bar across the back seat will work VERY WELL and cost ~$150 and be rock solid. Not sure if they want that though. I also hand made something that bolts to my rear strut brace, comes through the pass through, then bolts to the lower seat bolts for the back seat. Haven't used it since Elias, but it worked well when I had it. It just used a bolt that went through it to my normal tripod head.

that suction mount is made for cinema cameras [unless im mistaken]

but i still wouldnt put my gear out there without a safety wire.

My friends and I were doing donuts and axis spins and it stayed on perfect.

in the Ken Block outtake video, they lost one of the camera mounts. i'm sure his gymkhana car makes a few more lateral g's than most of our cars.

I used to use the Ultra mount Chasecam: http://www.chasecam.com/mounts/suction/SM41

The 6 suction cups hold ridiculously tight. Since I barely used it, I ended up Selling it to my friend along with a Panasonic mini dv cam and that's the setup he uses to record his track days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdmHi5DoZrY

you can toss the 3D head on a studio clamp if you are filming in a car with a roll bar.

that is what I use on the Miata (has roll bar)

CruiseCam currently isn't selling any product for some reason. Anybody know of anything similar to that? There's a carbon fiber one on ebay, but it's $140!

I don't have any metal machining tools, so I don't think I could make one myself.

Those suction cup ones are great.

I made a custom one, and it survived many track days. including a super fast track where I hit 250kp/h pretty easy.

It was made with suction thing that came as part of a roofrack kit. I then made a plate and other bits. The camera just screws in as it would to a tripod.

I've stuck my 30D with Sigma 17-70 on a car participating in autocross multiple times with this suction cup and I have had no problems or concerns with it falling off.
