    Default  Monopods...

    Who has what?

I really need one to get some shots I've been thinking about... To get an elevated perspective more than steadying a shot, but regardless I want one.

I really need something that will be ~6' when extended and I'd REALLY like it to be CF. Not because it's cool, or light/stiff, but because I'll be using this bare handed in the cold... I'd also like twist locks if possible.

    Suggestions.

    I have this

It was cheap and works great for everything I've used it for. Don't know anything about carbon fibre options, but I'm sure you can find something similar.

I have a very tall Gitzo monopod, it's aluminum and it's probably 6.5' tall or more... not sure.

I don't use it much, I should probably get rid of it.

I've never used one. But, out of curiosity, how is a monopod going to give you an elevated perspective versus just holding the camera and climbing/getting where you need to be?

    I've got this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...t_Monopod.html

I still need to get this swivel-head thing for it: http://www.kirkphoto.com/monopod.html

Sounds like it is too short for what you want. It's definitely beefier than most of the ones I was seeing when I was at the zoo. It has a grip around the top, so that part wouldn't be too cold.

I have a gitzo GM5540. It's a monster, but necessary for my two largest lenses, the 200 and 400.
