this is the 24-70 on the D700 with the hood in use. This is a ~10" combo and it's ~1" shot of perfect. The top WILL close, it's just not flat:

also note, all these shots were taken with the 5Dii and 35mm IN MANUAL FOCUS and with the aperture LOCKED at f/2... So not as much DOF as I'd normally use for product shots, especially when my focus was off.

As for the bag, it looks to be about perfect for what I wanted. it's a tad tight now (maybe it'll stretch a bit?) with those massive hoods, but I wanted as small a bag as would fit these 3 lenses and my filters (my landscape kit) and this works. The front buckle's weird shape make it a bit less than ideal, but I'm sure I'll get used to it (you have to work to line it up perfect to make it work).

In three months I'll know if I really like it though.

I went for black gray because it stood out less. Black red was a bit too flashy for me.

it's one of my concerns as well, but for landscaping it'll just keep the hunters away () and otherwise???

OK, after two whole days, I'm liking this bag a lot so far. I've just skipped using the clip on the front for now (I held the bag upside down loaded over the bed, velcro held, that's good enough for me). I've also taken the 24-70 hood off completely and put it over the skinny end of the 14-24 (since it's always thick due to the built in hood) which has helped a bunch. It's got the same **** in it as my other bags did, if not more right now, and just seems TINY (but heavy! ). I'll be debadging it soon enough, but so far so good, it's about perfect. Once I get all my filter crap out of it it'll be even slimmer!

You should've gone with camo if you wanted to blend in!

Thanks for the review, I wanted it before, now I want it more as it'll suit my needs perfectly at a cheaper price than I'd expect.

does the adventure 4 have a flap in the back with a zipper like my express 7 does? it's not very useful, but it does hold business cards nicely.

yeah, at least once. I floated corrections over 3 errors but I think I left that fly. I actually corrected myself on one in the audio. But yeah, I wing these so there will be mistakes. I'm not going to take multiple takes or edit anything when I do these so I have to live with that. I just want something that's helpful w/o being too long (like all the other reviews I've seen online).

I think it's perfect for what it is. Are you putting videos like these up on your blog as gear reviews? It's something I've been thinking about doing.

yeah, they're going on gear.bjp.com for now, but I'm thinking of making another sub domain of review.bjp.com that has JUST reviews and not my gearfaggotry posts. Not sure yet. But yeah, I want to make written reviews and include these videos in them.

Really, another subdomain? I personally feel that too many domains/subdomains splinters your web presence and kinda makes it a pain in the ass to keep things organized. Why not just use categories?

yeah, I'm struggling with that myself. I have 3 active blogs right now that are technically related. BJ.com, BJP.com and g.BJP.com. I've kept the gear separate because I don't need my family looking at everything I buy thinking I'm spending any real money when they know we're broke. I also don't want my clients looking at it all the time either. BJ.com basically gets just elias updates with some cross posting of landscapes. BJP gets landscapes and arch work, basically anything that is either paid or for sale. I could easily keep the reviews on g.BJP.com though...

but would you merge BJ.com and BJP.com and setup categories so BJ.com goes to the Elias category, but they're all on the same blog? I could even make a category for BJP that was "photography" so that link goes just there as well, but then there could be a link to the straight up blog with EVERYTHING on it?

I would at the very least combine the *.BJP.com domains. I can understand wanting to keep BJ.com for family/friends only, but then I would typically just use Facebook for that instead -- it's better suited to it, as it's easier to create conversations around a post of any kind (photos, videos, notes, links, &cet.).

yeah, the BJ blog is for family and friends to keep up with Elias. Of my family, my sister is the only one on fb so it NEEDS to be it's own blog. It is of course linked into my fb account and posts links there when I post to the blog, flickr or YT...

FB is great for people who use it, but my grandparents don't and my parents and their siblings also don't.

I totally understand that, I'm the black sheep in a family of Luddites. We've taken this way off-topic from your bag review, sorry, but one more comment -- how do you feel about linking between BJ.com and BJP.com? More specifically, how do you feel about your clients/review readers being able to see your more family-oriented stuff (even if they have to click through to another blog/site to see it)?

there's a link on the BJP.com about page to BOTH BJ.com and g.BJP.com. You can't read them as text really, but it's a link to "my family blog" and another to "my gear" or something like that:

also, if you go to gear.benjacobsenphoto.com the site's title actually links to all three blogs. Click gear and it's back to gear. Click benjacobsen and it's off to benjacobsen.com. Click photo and it's off to benjacobsenphoto.com. This WON'T work as I start to promote the site, but right now it's the only site of mine I bookmark then I use that to get to where I want to go.

BJ.com also has links to BJP.com and NSOP and g.BJP.com has links to everything as well. Basically, none of this is hidden by any means, I just don't want to bore clients or potential clients with my less professional family blog posts or a million pictures of Elias.

I like the video, pretty much hits on what I think of the bag as well. Dead nuts on about the gripped camera part, it just doesn't work well and the top won't close right without a lot of fussing.
