Default  Anyone have a small tripod?

If so, what do they use it for? I saw one in the Kodak store the other day (didn't even know we had a Kodak store in Doha-anomaly, I know...) and I'm thinking about going back to buy one. I guess I could use it for macro-type shots even though I don't have a macro lens.

I was kind of hoping to get a small one that would have extendable legs for night shots, but I didn't see one from the outside.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I have one of these:

I use it for motorcycle traveling where space is a premium. It works well, gives you a cool low angle and it was dirt cheap. It's not robust enough to hold anything heavy though, like a long zoom.

I've got a small one made by quantaray. Its pretty nice in the fact that it makes setting up a shot when you don't want to carry a full tripod pretty easy. Its a bit light so it doesn't do so well with a heavy lens on the 40d if the legs aren't fully extended, but it works pretty decent. I used it yesterday to shoot all my macro shots.

I've got one of those too (Ultrapod II). It works pretty well and would hold a small SLR I think with no trouble.

Moduleum, if you're doing macro you'll want a very stable tripod. Vibrations in that close focusing range will destroy the image in a hurry. It's much more important to have proper support when doing macro work than anything else. Since you mentioned macro, I assumed you're thinking about getting a macro lens or something to get you close to the macro range.

Agreed on the above. If you're planning on doing macro work, I wouldn't get a small/cheap tripod. You'll regret it pretty quick. Spend a couple hundred bucks and get something that will work better for you. I would also recommend getting a tripod with a removable center column so you can flip up side down or stick out to the side for other angles.

    I ordered a gorrila pod

Not here yet. I'm gonna use it for my PS camera. The legs are flexible, so in addition to functioning as a small tabletop tripod, you can wrap the legs around small trees, railing, etc and be able to have a stable shot from higher perspective while on the move.

They make larger versions for SLRs as well. Looks like a great travel item.
