    Default  The Pod!

These things look awesome! I think Id totally get some use of out it. Its an interesting concept and they have sizes for small PnS to SLRs. Can be easily stuck in a bag, so its much more convenient than a tripod if you want that extra bit of stability for walk n shoot days.

I know the strap doesnt look like it holds the camera, but there is a tripod screw in the center of the pod so it stays.

Looks like Bogen is the only dealer in the US.

Not too bad, but a bit on the heavy side to carry around for the bigger models.

Yea, the large ones a little over 2.6lbs. But more convenient than a tripod, and easily stuffed in a bag.

But whats in them? If its 2.6# worth of filling its probably not that easily stuffed.

I've got a sleeping bag that weighs less than that. THAT is easily stuffed.

Im guessing some sort of bead or bean type filling? I could def fit the big one in both my camera bags, but any backpack will have more than enough room. My point is that its not a bad option for extra stability when you cant bring a tripod. you can prop it on most surfaces that you normally wouldnt be able to such as railings, oddly shaped rocks, ect.

Good grief man. this isn't complicated! I'm sure it's not easily stuffed as in a sleeping bag with compressible filling. But it isn't so huge that you can't cram it in to a large camera bag. However if I'm carrying a large enough camera bag to haul that and the gear I want, I think I'd rather just throw my tripod over my back.

On the other hand this would be useful in some situations where my tripod just can't reach.

Ok, I did a little more research and I guess you can add/ remove the filling to make it more/ less flexible and shapely when you see fit. The supposedly work with tripod rings as well.

I have had the Red Pod for a few years and found out that I don't use it that much. If I screw it onto the tripod mount on my Rebel XT, the weight of the lens makes the whole thing topple over. For it to be useful with an SLR, I just end up resting the lens on the Pod (like in the Silver Pod picture above), but the mount on the Red Pod is in the center, instead of being offset like the Silver Pod, so I don't even screw it on. I imagine that the offset mount would help out.

I've also used my Pod with a portable point-and-shoot, and it was terrific! However, it was also 6 times the size of the p&s, and therefore, is really inconvenient to just carry around all the time.

The filling is indeed removable. They're little plastic pellets, kind of like those small beads that middle-school girls use to make jewelry. The opening to the bag is velcro, so, when you open up the bag and use a bit too much force to open the velcro, you have the potential for beads to come flying out.

I'd recommend just making any ol' bean bag yourself. In fact, I'm planning to just attach a screw to my camera bag and using that as a bean bag. Multi-tasker!

The green pod isn't that heavy and has an off center screw. Hmm, I like this idea.

meh, just use a hacky sack--then you can play hippy stoner games when you're not out shooting!
