Default  Canon LC-5 Wireless Controller Set

Anyone have any experience with this?

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...oller_Set.html

I came across it while over the 40D, and while the price is high I think it could open up a lot of shot possibilities for me as I'm constantly dreaming up better ways to document my motorcycle travels.

With this I'm picturing the camera set up ground level in a corner apex, the remote set to continuous fire, and then me railing around the corner taking shots of myself. I couldn't get panning shots, but I think the potential is still there. Or I could set it up covering a difficult offroad section and get a sequence of shots of me making/not making it. Or rig up a stable mount off the side of the bike and do wide angle road/bike shots in motion, or turn it back at myself and get a self portrait or two.

yeah, I've also wanted something like this (or a long wire for what I want, but their extensions aren't cheap either)... But the price has always kept me away.

There has to be some sort of cheaper ebay alternative, no? Or something third party?

I want something so I can put my camera and ball head on the end of a monopod... Then hold the OTHER end and be able to use it to get elevated shots of things... Like me skiing or while on the boat, but with me in the shot, or a shot above a car... Cool stuff like that (especially with the fisheye).
    I own this joint!

exactly! Something like this opens up a world of possibilities.

I may have to *shudder* go search POTN to see if there's an aftermarket alternative.

    good luck...

those guys are so into their 1 series and Ls that the "other gear" section goes unnoticed.
I'll leaf through the back of some photo mags tonight and see if there is anything that looks like what we're after, then google whatever I find... there are a bunch of ads that look along these lines, but I never know if they're for flashes and or how expensive they are.

    $29.95

    http://www.gadgetinfinity.com/produc...cat=285&page=1

Oh, and for extensions check this guy out: http://www.hapg.org/astrocables.htm

He'll take your TC-80N3 Timer Remote Controller, the RS-80N3 Remote Switch, or the RA-N3 Remote Switch Adapter and wire in an extension. For a total of about $70 you can have that extension with a serial to USB connection directly into your laptop to control the camera from Canon software or other 3rd parties. You can then add generic USB extension cables to get your needed length. If you search hard enough you can get the simple wiring diagrams and solder something up yourself, but I'm not so good at soldering and would likely ruin the remote.

Oh yeah, duh. Everytime I saw that thread before now it registered in my mind as a remote flash trigger, not a remote shutter release.

It looks like he has a $10 12' extension which would be what I need:
Part # CN3EXT-12 12 foot extension cable for the CN3 series cables $10.00
    we're running CN3 cables right?

I think that CN3 is his own designation for Canon N3 connectors. That extension would just be a generic USB extension cable that you can get at Fry's or the like.

You have to send him your remote with an N3 connector, he inserts a male/female jack and then sends an extension cable with a serial connector at the other end to mate up with his inserted jack. You can then add on a serial to USB adapter for your laptop.

So basically, your remote will function as originally intended but with an inserted male/female jack. Or, you can unplug the N3 connector from the remote and plug it into the serial/USB cable to allow camera control directly from a laptop.

    Remote with inserted jack:

N3 connector plugged in to an extension:

well here's how to DIY an extension:
    http://www.lukemiller.org/journal/20...lease-for.html

I happen to have 2 remotes since I got the guicci timer, so I'm thinking I might try that. A coiled headphone extension would be awesome for what I want... I'm actually thinking wired would work better for me just in case I drop it, it's still attached. The wireless GIs are also cool and I can see other uses for them too.
