Default  Viewing EXIF from file properties

    Hi all,
Okay, here's a little background on the stuff I'm using. I'm running Windows XP using Photoshop CS2. I shoot with a Canon 20D usually in RAW+Large JPEG.

I've noticed that when I download my pictures from my memory card, I can look at the properties of the JPEGs and see most of the EXIF info, like exposure time, aperture, focal length, etc. If I go and open the RAW in Photoshop and then Save As, if I then try to view the EXIF of that copy I can only see that the shot was taken with a 20D and was edited with CS2. The EXIF is not gone, though, because if I take that file and upload it to photobucket then use the EXIF viewer plugin for Firefox, I can see all of it. This doesn't happen if I open the JPEG version of the same shot.

Does anyone know what's happening? I'm not sure how long it's been doing this, but I think I remember there being a time when it didn't.
    Thanks,
    Reed

once it's opened and saved, adobe seems to stuff all the exif info into a different "container" within the metadata portion of the file.

how to change this behavior? i have no idea.

I think it's in how you're saving as.

With a JPEG shot in camera as a JPEG I always see all my normal data provided I open it and just "save as" not "save for web". With a RAW, open in ACR, edit, then "save as" JPEG and it's fine on my computer and on my site. But I know some sites strip that stuff when you upload.

Yeah, I don't use the "save for web" thing. When you open the RAW in ACR, do you then open in photoshop and save from there or do you save directly from ACR?

^ open in photoshop and save from there. It will strip it if saved from ACR.

Okay, that's what I do: open the RAW in ACR then open with photoshop to do my editing, then I "save as" in photoshop. Hmmm...

Hmmm, I just went, took a picture, plugged the memory card into the card reader, found the file with bridge, opened in ACR, opened in CS2, made a small adjustment, "save as" and this is what I see in the properties:

This is what I see when I look at the properties from the JPEG right out of the camera:

Are there maybe some settings I have out of whack while saving?

Now that I just looked at those side by side, I wonder if the resolution has anything to do with it... Out of camera it's 72dpi and out of CS2 it's 240dpi

Is this the .jpeg that is generated within the camera while you are shooting raw?

I did read something the other day that said if you use the "save for web" in PS it will strip the data out of the image. I have never used it so I can't say for sure but that came from an article in ......... Hrm, Rangefinder Magazine? Can't remember......

The IMG_9813 is the JPEG straight out of the camera. IMG_9813e is the RAW opened in ACR, opened in CS2, and then "saved as".
