Did you guys actually buy noise ninja or am I missing something?

Re: Noise Ninja |
Didn't buy it, and I don't use it... but once I need something like it, I probably will buy it. I'm not sure if it's still the case, but a demo version I got before wouldn't watermark TIFF output so you could effectively get noise-free NN images legally, for free.

Used it, never bought it, don't need it.

Re: Noise Ninja |
noise reduction software. It's awesome for when you need to bump your ISO up and the camera isn't so hot at doing it. Run the image through noise ninja and it gets rid of (most of) the noise, and surprisingly leaves the detail behind.Originally Posted by moduleum

Re: Noise Ninja |
anyone used Dfine yet? Its supposed to be better than NN in terms of softening.

Re: Noise Ninja |
I wouldn't mind picking up NN for when I have to bump the ISO on my macro shots... anyone know if there are any student deals associated with it?

I've never seen any sort of student deal for it unfortunately.

Re: Noise Ninja |
Wow, I just downloaded the profiles for all my cameras... It's even better when you use it as designed.

Re: Noise Ninja |
I created profiles for my 1D a couple years ago, haven't used NN since then though.

Re: Noise Ninja |
I rarely use it, and the auto profile worked very well so I never looked into it...

what version of NN is everyone using?
|
|
i have it installed and use it sometimes, it REALLY helps not only with noisy night shots, but with day shots that are saturated, have the curves unbalanced and color turned b&w.
|
|
NN pro, I just bought it last month and I love it. I have no equivocations of using ISO 3200 anymore.
-ted
|
|
Really? Can you post any 3200 examples ted?
|
|
I rarely shoot 3200 on my 1D MK II, and up to 1600 needs no NN if exposure is good, probably the same for 3200.

hrm, a little better

I agree with carl that it's more about nailing (overexposing) the exposure more than saving shots with NN, but I prefer to use both.
I'm using the 2.1.2 plugin. 2.2 is the most current.

I have no qualms? I have no doubts? Mebbe I misused that word, but it sounded good in my head.
As far as images, look through the PAD threads prior to yesterday, I have several shot at ISO 3200.

Ted, I can't believe that beer bottle is at 3200.... there's no noise visible in it...
and I know the exif is intact, I'm just saying I'm impressed with it.

wow. That beer bottle has me sold.

So, when you install all the profiles for your camera, in the NN plug-in, do you just choose "auto-load profile based on EXIF"??

Holy crap that beer bottle is SMOOOTH for a 3200 shot.

it can also be quite effectively used for skin smoothing:

With the pro you can install it on as many machines as you want. I think. Actually, I can't remember but that sounds right.
Not sure, but it should work fine with CS2.
How's that for a definitive answer?

I just tried the plugin demo... very impressive.

You're right, that's what I get for speaking off the top of my head. From the site:
"Pro Bundle
License Keycode
(Plug-In and Standalone)
(Email Delivery) =
Keycode for both the Photoshop plug-in and standalone versions of Noise Ninja. Activates all features, including 16-bit image support (48 bits per pixel), batch processing, Photoshop smart filter, and multiprocessing support."

The stand alone doesn't appear to handle prophoto RGB. WTF? Do you need to load in crappy sRGB photos to work right?

Hoyl carp. I went ahead and bought the Pro bundle too.
This is a 100% crop of a photo taken on Fuji NPZ-800 pushed to 3200, 16-bit scan @ 2820dpi done on a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual III film scanner.
Only a little spot healing brush used to remove some particularly annoying dust, before any NN processing.
The final image:
Very cool.
