I just finished processing the first photo from my trip and was about to create a thread for it. Anyways, uploaded the shot, went to look at it in Firefox and it just doesn't look as good, not terrible, but off for sure. Blues have turned a bit aqua, greens look yellow, etc. So, thinking I didn't convert it or did something wrong, I double-checked all that, everything was good.

Then, I decided to check it out in Safari (a color managed browser) and it looks perfect. The disparity is pretty surprising, to be honest.

So, the question is, what is the general consensus on something like that? I need this **** to look right, especially for my website. Should I only worry about color managed browsers and just let it fly for Firefox?

And no, I'm not posting the photo in here, it'll be in sharing/critique at some point soon.

As Carl said, web browsers (non "color managed") display everything in sRGB.

Firefox 3.0 is color managed, by the way... you can load the path to your monitor profile through about:config.

Yes, it was converted to sRGB via the 'Save For Web' feature of CS3.

Maybe I need to figure out what version of Firefox I'm using. That could be the problem.

    Thanks, guys.

Try it without using Save For Web... manually convert to sRGB and do a standard Save As. Keep the sRGB profile embedded, as well. See if there is any difference.

If there's a difference (on a non-colormanaged browser), then we know it's a problem with the save routine. If there's no difference, then there's something else wonky. Maybe with the working space profile in Photoshop? What kind of monitor calibration have you done, and how is it loaded?

Looks like I'm using FF 2.0. Anyways, I don't much care as long as it looks right to everyone else.

I'll give that a shot at some point, but for now, I'm getting tired of sitting in this coffee shop.

Weird. It's not just my photos, I checked a few others on various forums and they look different (especially blues) between Firefox and Safari, with all of them looking more accurate (in my opinion) in Safari.

Monitor was calibrated around 2 months ago. Working space is Adobe RGB. Web files are sRGB. Calibration profile is set in the 'System Preferences'.

I've come to the conclusion that I don't think it's something to do with my work flow, it's at the least a larger issue. I just went to a handful of different photographers websites and viewed them side-by-side, FF vs. Safari. There is a noticeable difference, ESPECIALLY in photos with a lot of blue in them.

Must be something within Firefox.. and I suspect some kind of option somewhere since I see no difference in my browser/photoshop.

I don't see any difference in image rendering between Gecko-rendered browsers such as Firefox, and WebKit-rendered browsers such as Safari or Midori.

You may want to check and see if there is a color profile loaded in Safari.

type "about:config" into firefox's address bar

    search for color

    see if "browser.display.use_document_colors" is "true"

    and

    "browser.display.use_system_colors" is "false".

I don't know whether or not that's what would cause it, but a quick look through the config options brought this to my attention.

Scott, also realize it doesn't matter what you're using, it NEEDS to look good in non color managed browsers because that's what the majority of your visitors/customers will be using.

You should really check within Safari and see if it has a color profile loaded. If you load the standard sRGB profile in Safari and load no profile at all in FF 2.0, they should display identical colors.
