Default  PS: reset pop-up menu locations (external monitor problem)

(not sure it matters for this, but i'm running photoshop CS)

At the moment I don't have my external monitor with me and I'm trying to do some PP in Photoshop on my tiny laptop screen. When I go to Image > Adjustments > [anything] the pop-up menus that should be appearing on the screen are not ... they are being displayed out in external monitor land a few inches off screen. It seems PS remembers the coordinates from the last time the menu was used and displays it there despite not having the monitor attached anymore. I've tried Window > Workspace > Reset Palette Locations to no avail. I also changed the laptop display settings from 1024x768 to 800x600 and back again, hoping that might knock some sense into PS. Nope.

Anybody have any other ideas? Is there another reset menu option somewhere?

Under display properties/settings you should be able to highlight the secondary monitor and unclick "extend my desktop onto this monitor". Never done an external monitor from a laptop so that's all I can think of right now.

I assume you are talking about the Control Panel and not something in PS ... I'm actually on a Mac and the display is set just to the monitor screen now. The computer has even been rebooted and knows nothing about an external monitor ... it's just PS's cached properties that's the problem it seems. I'm looking for where they store their metadata now.

well, it's forcing me to learn Curves ... cuz that's one of the only menus that I never use so it pops up in the middle of the screen :-)

    wow, weird....

try setting your resolution as high as it goes maybe? Thinking then they'll pop up inside your viewable area?

can't ... the highest resolution of the laptop screen is less than that of my external monitor.

awfully annoying, but no big deal ... got other things to do than PP. will play with photoshop next week when i get back to my usual setup. i was just hoping that there was some obvious PS setting that i didn't know about.

In photoshop, Edit/Preferences/Interface/ uncheck "remember palette locations"

Nada. I don't think PS considers the pop-up menus "palettes" and I can already see all the palettes on my screen.

Nice try though ... I hadn't seen that in the preferences.

    We have a winnAr!

Removed the "Adobe Photoshop CS Prefs.psp" file and the pop-up menus show up in the middle of the screen.

Thanks, Ted. I get the sense this was bugging you more today than me
