Default  Rules for the Sharing Section:

Its time to put a few basic rules in place for the Sharing forum... please read this before posting.

What goes in sharing? Ask yourself this, are you you sharing the photo or the subject of the photo? If you're sharing the image, post it in here. If you're sharing the subject, put it in OT (or another forum if its relevant). Let's keep the focus on sharing photography in here.

Whose photos go in sharing? YOUR photos go here. If you're sharing someone else's work you'd like to discuss, do that in general, if you're sharing your work do it here. If someone else starts a thread specifically about something do not to share your photos in their thread unless the thread is created with that intention (ie show me your car, you can post your car, look at my car, don't share yours).

    # of Images Per Post/Thread: For now, please keep the number of shots within a post at 10 or less. If you can, try to keep the entire thread under 10 images as well, but it's understood this won't always work. This will keep the load time (and length) of the thread much shorter and will be good for everyone. Obviously threads where we all share shots of something (ie show me your cars!) will have a lot of shots which is fine.

Image Size: Since we all have different monitor and resolution settings, please try to limit your images to resolutions that make sense. This rule used to say 800px was the longest any edge could be, but we realize that isn't the perfect setting as technology has progressed. Officially, try to limit your images to 1024 x 768 to avoid scrolling for as many people as possible. If you want to post a pano, you're welcome to do so, but consider posting a smaller size with a link to the larger resolution that requires scrolling. If you do post something that's a bit too large, the moderators reserve the right to change your links as they see fit if it's beyond 1000px in any direction and they'll PM you a link so you can edit your post if there's an issue.

DO NOT: Post anything with an obviously illegal activity, overly violent, etc. type of image within it. Use good judgment. I can't imagine this being too much of an issue. If you'd like to post something with nudity in it, please take it to the "Nudes" section. If you have more than 10 posts, you will be able to see it.

    Thanks!

We have had a rash of critiquing in the sharing forum, often in threads that don't solicit it. I am bumping the rules threads for both forums so that everyone has fair warning and isn't surprised when I or another moderator starts handing out warnings or points.

The point is that in sharing, some people just want to show something they experienced through photography, and often they could care less if the composition/exposure/aperture is perfect.

closed thread is closed, but I edited the image size "rules" to be a bit more current. Basically, be smart about it and there won't be any issues. The moderators have the right to edit anything they think is a bit too large and they'll PM you if they've done so in order to keep you informed of any issues.

I don't foresee any issues here and everyone has generally been very good/smart with their sizes, I just know there's been some confusion with the rules saying 800px while a lot of us have already switched to larger sizes.
